Take advantage of absentee voting

For many Ohioans, the Nov. 6 election will be more important in many ways than if voters were helping to elect a president. Both on local candidates and issues and those affecting the entire state — including a heated gubernatorial race and Issue 1 — critical decisions need to be made at the polls.

It is not difficult these days to use the ballot to safeguard your interests. In addition to doing so in person on Election Day, one can take advantage of the absentee voting system in Ohio. It permits registered voters to go to their county boards of election and cast ballots in advance of Nov. 6.

Or, if you prefer, you can request an absentee ballot be mailed to you. That can be done online at www.sos.state.oh.us. It can be marked, then dropped off at your elections board office as late as 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.

Absentee voting is under way in Ohio. We encourage voters to take advantage of the system to ensure their voices are heard. This is especially advantagous to perhaps a senior who can’t get to a poll on Election Day. Or those unable to physically go to a polling spot because of work, school or child care schedules. Make sure your voice — your vote — gets heard.
