Salem Hunting Club fundraiser a success
To the editor:
The Salem Hunting Club held its 14th annual fundraiser for the Lowell Iden-Larry Iler Scholarship on Aug. 5 at the club.
Thank you everyone!
What a wonderful successful day we had. Perfect weather, lots of help and many generous people. We served over 200 at the breakfast and shot 30 rounds of trap.
We wish to thank everyone who respects and appreciates the work we do to honor scholarship recipients and help in some small way to achieve their goal.
The 2017 scholarships were awarded to two United Local graduates: Bryan Smearsoll and Jarod Herron.
Bryan is the son of Alan and Sue Smearsoll. He will be attending Hocking College, majoring in wildlife resource management.
Jarod is the son of Jay and Pamela Herron. He will be attending The Ohio State University for dairy science and agribusiness.
We would like to thank the following businesses for their support and contributions. Here are some of the people who have continually donated to our event:
From Beloit: Runzo’s Outdoor Sports.
From Salem: Salem Welding, Salem Tire Service, Sherwin-Williams, Farm and Dairy, Great Clips, Salem Propane and Gas Stop and Salem Sparkle Market Lemon Tree.
From Leetonia: Devine Roofing and Construction.
From Lisbon: Happy Clippers II, JWB Supply and Frontiers Unlimited.
From Columbiana: Flynn Auto Group, 4WD, Phil’s Sales and Service and NAPA.
From Alliance: MAC Trailer.
Also from private individuals: Fred Baker, Police Chief Mike Emigh, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dailey, Ron Burrows, Mr. and Mrs. Rod Dray, Bill and Nadine Urban, Martha Lozier, Tim Laughrery and Vickie Clunk, A.J. and Roy Stacy, Janine and Steve Beasley, Robert and Cindy Beach and Jim and Jackie Thellman.
Our 47 baskets really helped our event.
A special thanks to all the people who donated monetary gifts to our benefit.
The winner of the 50/50 this year was Fred Baker who generously donated all the winnings back to the scholarship fund.
We at the hunting club are proud to honor in their memories the two special men the scholarship is named. Lowell Iden and Larry Iler were special friends and longtime officers of the club who gave their time and energy to helping young people learn and enjoy the outdoor shooting sports.
We are looking forward to awarding future scholarships to deserving people. We have, to this date, given 36 scholarships amounting to $18,000.
May the scholarships remain a permanent addition to our club.
Thanks from the families and members of the Salem Hunting Club.
