Journal Staff Writer She says she does it all for her children, but Wendi Pancake has ended up helping out a number of other people’s kids as well through her leadership roles in the community. The 33-year-old sixth-grade science teacher at Beaver Local, in addition to shaping young minds in the classroom, is also a Cub Scoutmaster, a coach of both soccer and Destination Imagination and a counselor of young women ages 12-18. “Most of these things I do are for my kids because I want them to build a good foundation and become successful people in life,” she said. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lisbon, Pancake devotes a good deal of her time traveling to several church wards, from Rootstown to Ashtabula, Sharon, Pa., to Chester, W.Va., to help young women “to develop leadership roles and help them to become responsible adults.” She said she has outings with groups of girls on a few Saturdays each month and also holds meetings in between those outings.
