EAST LIVERPOOL — The Beaver Local Education Association (BLEA) and the school board met for the third time with a federal mediator but no terms were met between the two parties. At 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the BLEA negotiating team and members of the school board met at the Kent State-East Liverpool campus to try to come to a mutual agreement with contract terms. Some BLEA members stood outside of the Mary Patterson Building on East 4th Street to show their support for their negotiating team. But, just like Aug. 20 and Aug. 12, the two sides couldn’t come to terms even with a federal mediator present. In fact, according to BLEA spokesperson Leslie Gabbart, no progress has really been made since late March, before the federal mediator was called in by Superintendent Sandra DiBacco. “It’s pretty disappointing,” Gabbart said, noting that the board has held to its previous offer that was rejected by the education association negotiating team at the last meeting.
