couldn't agree more Mr. Mingus. It is also the reason for the inflation rates that we have been experiencing. Some folks don't seem to get the correlation between cost of wages and benefits and the cost of the product or the cost of wages and benefits in the public sector and the amount of tax dollars that are needed to pay those wages. They have this mentality that money grows on trees I guess and never once think where these increased wages are going to come from which is we the consumers and we the taxpayers. It is just a vicious cricle once you start going around in it.

I agree that the choice of the rally location was poor, an unfortunate mistake. As far as Ventra needing a local union, I do not have personal knowledge. Whether Ventra, Flex-N-Gate, and Mr. Khan have the means to increase their workers’ hourly wage, only a thorough analysis of the books would answer. However, let’s not forget that unions do more than seek wage increases. (We’ve seen plenty of unions in the area that have approved wage freezes for years when the money was not available.) They also exist to encourage fair treatment and the safety of workers. And while, yes as Mr. Mingus suggests, there may be government agencies to fill those roles, they may not know to act unless informed by a union. If you research Flex-N-Gate, you will find 1) rulings by the National Labor Relations Board that management has unethically treated workers at non-unionized plants 2) fines imposed by OSHA for exposing workers to hazardous and carcinogenic materials.

Inflation rates. : Better check again concerned.

The correlation of wages, benefits vs. prices,

Seems to me wages, benefits have all but remained stagnant for yrs, while prices continue to rise.

With your therory we should all be still making a $1/hr. and a gal of gas would still be .35 cents

Salem started down hill along with main street america when co. moved to Mexico and China for low wage,no benefits and un-safe work conditions,

I still remembe all the products made in Mexico being sent to Salem to be repaired .

Ladybug, one thing in common of all the places you mentioned...union shops. Plenty of nonunion companies doing quite well in Salem.

Not to mention, the idea that you need someone to do your bidding for you says more about you than the company you work for.

Bug says: "With your therory we should all be still making a $1/hr. and a gal of gas would still be .35 cents "

Bug your are just proving my point. Prices are in proportion to wages. Make more and it is all ate up in higher prices. It use to be if you wanted more money you moved up the ladder of responsiblity. Or you would improve your skills and go get a better paying job, not today people want to do the same job this year as they did last year and they want more money to do it. It can only lead to one thing; higher prices for the products they are producing. The is only two ways profits (which is where wages come from) can increase is when productivity increases or if prices increase. If a workers productivity has not increased then the raises have to come from price increases. It is like a dog chasing it's tail. If you are too blind to see that I really feel sorry for you.

So what your saying is a person is not entitled to more money unless he moves up the ladder, even though prices continue to go up anyway.

So you don't get a raise and buy less in return ,Meaning less demand and less jobs.

You fall behind more and sooner or later fall into the range for gov, asst. Then you complain about that because a family making less than $30000/yr can servive.

Plus they pay less taxes eaving services short of money to operate on .

seems to be working good so far.

I look back to the 60's 70's and early 80's and see good jobs,a thriving area .

A system that works for all ,but better for those who chose to get a better ed, or start their own buss,

In case we all forget .It's called Capitalism.

Anytime "ladybug" writes anything on here I feel like I have to decipher a text message written from a 9 year olds phone. Any post you make immediately loses it's credibility due to the lack of use of the english language. Not saying it has to be perfect. But I'd expect someone who is trying to make a point to be able to spell out words and not have a new paragraph every sentence. Also the proper use of a period would be fantastic!

So where do raises come from Ladybug, if they don't come from price increases? And when the prices increase, where do the raises go? I am just saying it is a vicious circle and just increasing wages every year is not going to make things any better. It is the proverbial dog chasing it's tail senerio. I think what you are advocating is socialism where everyone is entiled to all the goodies of life whether they were productive enough to earn them or not. Socialism don't work it has been proven over and over again yet this country is*****bent on heading down that road. Time will tell how long the USA will be able to continue down this road.
