We don't have money to repair the roads we have, yet they still want to waste money on new highways that are not needed. I travel route 30 a couple times a year and it reminds me of a time in days past when you could enjoy a drive. Once you get to Canton it turns into a rat race. No amount of highway spending is going to bring manufacturing jobs back to these areas. Route 11 is a classic case of under utilized 4 lane highways. Get north of Youngstown and you can drive miles without seeing another car. We couldn't even afford to keep and patrol the rest area outside of Columbiana.

Altho I agree with the part of your post about not having the money to repair the roads we have, I have to disagree about the need to the rt 30 expansion and manufacturing jobs. The oil play has already started to bring new jobs into the area with Exterran, V&M expansion, Dearing Compressor and even smaller businesses are starting to see an increase in productivity. Plus the truck truck on 30 between Lisbon and Canton has increased. Historically this part of rt 30 has been known for its fatalities. This road is not "truck traffic friendly". If our politicians want to entice economic growth, they had better figure a way of funding the infrastructure that is needed.

"There are literally thousands of jobs being created in this area..."

I know this doesn't have anything to do with this project but that statement was interesting.

If that is the case about the 1000's of jobs growing in this area...then why are the unemployment numbers still growing in this county?

They need to at least get the 4 lane past East Canton, I drive that daily and it's awful. It would be nice to go all the way with it, or at least around Minerva, but the middle of nowhere in Columbiana County can wait if necessary.

"Most of the 'drop' in unemployment has been people dropping out of the workforce, then they are not counted as unemployed. This skews the numbers. The U-6 is 15%." The U-6 was 15% Feb 2012. As of Feb 2013 the BLS U-6 is 14.3%. Tho not what it was in the early 2000's (%7 to 9%), I like to think our economy is getting better and we have that opportunity with the oil and gas coming into our area. But we need the infrastructure to handle it. We still have a loooooong way to go tho'.
