concerned re-quotes Mr. Drummond and states: "I've been out all morning working on preparing to remove graffiti vandalism from around the city"

As if he was out there all by himself? That was just another personal agenda political shore up! It isn't about right and wrong, success and accomplishment and solution, it is another LOOK AT ME ME ME ME ME.

Just another one man show leading the charge!

Ladybug...before you comment, it would help tremendously if you would READ THE COMMENTS FIRST and in your case, READ THEM TWICE, slowly and carefully line by line.

I believe this would help you to be more instrumental with your own opinions that do NOT coincide with others views and comments.

Clean up the wish list.

Not my problem either, I didn't make it up.

My wife doesn't need any more city taxes removed from her ck. either so we agree.

"Your the one having math problems,$14000 of which $ 7000 os drug money. "

The 'drug money' is now taxpayer money, if it is in the 'kitty'.

I know some active duty people that were in the area. They stopped at a few watering holes down the street from the police station, last week. Drug use was openly observed and they will no longer go back to any of those. Snorting lines in plain view of employees. Salem has it covered alright.

The $3000 to $ 4000 from scrap will go back into capital improvement fund.

Your the one having math problems,$14000 of which $ 7000 os drug money. Leaving $ 7000 tax dollars. Which they hope to get $ 3000 to $ 4000back.

"Now he spends about $3000 of tax payer money to improve a area..."

I think you need to check your arithmetic. Looks like $11,000 is getting spent on this project. Or $4 grand if you don't include the DEA money.

The $3000 was scrap value for the salvaged metal.

As far as the graffiti goes, I know it sugs to get tagged but it's really up to the property owner to clean it up, unless they can catch the 'artist'. Nothing wrong with a bunch of people getting together to help out, though. More power to them.

"Everyone wants better roads, more police, drug dogs, another detective, more patrolman. And yet no one says here's the extra money to do it, "

Perhaps because most of us don't have any 'extra'.

Let us know when you drop them a nice chunk of change, though.

"What costs?" Read the article and then read what she suggested. The cost she is talking about is the cost for removing the cells and selling them for scrap. What she suggested is having those sentenced to public service for crimes they committed do the tearing out. It would save cost of tearing them out and increase the return to the city. "All the name calling and direct personnal attacks over basically nothing." Which post has name calling and personal attacks?

What comments are you reading? I think all the comments made here are supportive of the police. The only one that could even be said came close to complaining was a "recommendation" by Brenda of a possible way to keep the cost down. She was not complaining about anything just making a suggestion of a possible way to cut cost.

The new police chief was getting high fives 2 months ago. Now he spends about $3000 of tax payer money to improve a area of the police dept not being utilized and all*****breaks lose.

Give the guy a chance

The pride in one's community starts with it's citizens.

Easy to set back and complain about everything.

I find it funnie. Everyone wants better roads, more police, drug dogs, another detective, more patrolman. And yet no one says here's the extra money to do it,

These people have asked it's citizens several time for assistance in reducing the graffitti.

You have to start somewhere. Clean the mess up and try to prevent more of it.

"I've been out all morning working on preparing to remove graffiti vandalism from around the city"

There in lies part of the problem in Salem,we are always chasing the horses that have gotten out instead of fixing the fence. Wouldn't it be more productive to spend your time trying to find ways to prevent the Graffiti, than trying to find ways to keep cleaning it up. Our police force is down in manpower at a time when the criminal element in town is at an all time high. Fix the real problem and then worry about cleaning up the aftermath which has occurred by the shortage of a police presence in town.
