How many should they be responsible for? As many as are allowed by their mutually negotiated contract.

I noticed that in both the Salem News article and The Review article they failed to mention that about 40% of the "absent" days were due to workshops of other supervisor mandated activities. It is those workshops that in part qualified Tracie to teach dual credit classes. And when did being a loving and caring mother and being there for a child having surgery become a deficiency. A person shouldn't have to choose between being a good parent or a teacher. They are compatible endeavors.

psafkow just out of curiosity just how many "unusual family circumstances" do you think the tax payers should be bound and responsible for in a teacher's personal life?

You know I can understand the bond that grows between students and their teachers, but using children as your crutch for sympathy in disciplinary issues...really?

The only people the board better be taking into consideration is the parents and the education of those students. Taxpayers that can not be happy about being taxed for a teacher and her problems in her private life. If this had been about her and illness that had affected her, that might be understandable. Paid leave to take care of her child at home? Sorry that is crossing the line.

Her absences are within her allowable time off and due to a medical problem with one of her daughters. In the time since her absences were mentioned as a potential problem, she has taken steps to basically cut them in half. Hopefully, the board is paying attention to the comments of her former and current students. If they do, they would never let her go.

Totally something WRONG with this picture! You read this stuff and it will literally leave your mouth hanging open!

So what they are really saying is this...She was a failure and because the board was a failure they are shoring up her failures with rewards because they were a failure! All done at the expense and burden on the TAXPAYERS! Yep, great system!
