A dog park?? Really are they serious? Of all the things this town needs I would say a dog park is last on the list. How about all the councilmen put their share of the windfall into streets or sidewalks or replace some broken down piece of equipment. Don't spend it on something that is going to require more money to continue the operation of it.

Watchdog, good points about the uncalculated costs of operating and maintaining a dog park. Of course, we can foresee how those costs will be overcome once they are realized.......city dog licenses!

A dog park? A windmill? Makes me wonder if council members have ever driven on our decaying streets or tried to walk on our broken, cracked and dangerous sidewalks.

No ifs, ands or buts about it! No turning the other cheek on this matter. If they don’t they will be SUED. All it takes is one irresponsible dog owner that breaks the rules, and the local animal control officer does nothing despite being informed, a person who sustains personal injuries or injuries to his or her pooch will prevail against the city in court. This idea is probably the worst idea to date and the city will have a NIGHTMARE on their hands. First time a pit bull swallows a poodle….

Now, having said all that. A dog park? It’s one heck of an idea in a city that can afford to operate one. That little ole money they have won’t cover the costs and the standards they have to apply to have a dog park. Yep, nice thought but as usual they didn’t do any homework. Dog parks are COSTLY and the biggest liability a city can take on. DOG BITE LAWS ARE CLEAR. Dog parks must be governed by strict rules that are going to have to be posted and part of the local municipal code and the city HAS TO ENFORCE THEM.

salemresident, the first problem is we have a sitting council that has personal agendas that override the wants and wishes of an entire city. The second problem is this city is ran by people that REFUSE to come into the 21st century. They don't know how to THINK outside the box and most of them just refuse to do it or just don't know how to do it to get SALEM out of the stagnant growth and make it prosperous. That is why living in Salem is B O R I N G and we can't get a healthy middle class of families to move into this city.

Now throw on top, a park commission that believe the parks belong to them and it's invitation ONLY. That is just one of the many reasons our children graduate from Salem and LEAVE.

Give me a break!! We are considering a dog park but we couldn't put in a skate park for our children?? I am a dog lover but even I can see that this is full of possible liabilities. And what does this say about our city, that our children are so far down on the list of priorities. But then we do have a park where the ducks are kept behind a fence. More and more the reason I go to Alliance to use their beautiful park system where the ducks can roam free, and the children are allowed to play. Sad just sad, Salem.
