Ladybug the list of things you named is exactly what I meant when I said that part of the problem was the society. Teachers can't teach kids that have no desire to learn and that get no support from parents. While there are a lot of good kids and good parents out there their numbers are getting to be in the minority. So should we continue to spend tax money on kids that refuse to learn and parents that don't care either. Like I said all the money in the world is not going to help until their is a change in our society which I have my doubts that we will ever see in our lifetime.

I think our education problems go far beyond testing. No discipline, lack of paticapation from parents, kids are given everything,'cars, cell phones and in the inter city ,

Drugs and gangs take the place of family.

I don't dis-agree with your statement,

It's the throwing more money at it,

The state and fed can't keep reducing the funding that went to the schools and at the same time exspect the std,

Their not asking for more basically,Just replacing what was taken away,

What did people exspect when Kasick stood up and said see what I did,

Right .cut funding to everyone else to balance his books.

I see I have two disagrees on my last post. Would one of you like to explain to me how throwing more money at education has or will improved it? The problems with our school system are many, most of them stems from our society in which we live. Some are because teachers are forced to teach to the test, so the school can get their great report cards from the state. Until we as a society return to the fundamental principles our society was founded upon, all the money in the world is not going to improve the education system.

I agree with Truth101

The congress has cut funding back to 2010 levels and more. The state has cut funding to balance it's budget.

This loss has to be made up somewhere eventually.

Like someone else said. These kids are our future.

The responsibility has always been passed on.

Yes cut waste and we don't have to build castles to teach in.

Salemresident throwing money at education is not going to guarantee the best education. The problem with our education system is the teachers are forced to teach so kids can pass a test. They are forced to teach to the test and not the student's needs. If the government would get out of education and quit tying the hands of the teachers and let them teach the way they are capable of you would see a marked improvement in our school system. Fancy mortar and bricks do not make for a better education.

We spend more on education every single year - FACT, so you can take your comments about republicans cutting education spending and stick it in your ear.

I will absolutely vote for this increase. I have no children in the school system but realize that these kids are our future and I want them to have the best education we can give them. This is the difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. The Republicans only want to know whats in it for them, while us Democrats are whats the benefit for all of society. Crucial difference.

Expect to see more of this from a lot of school districts. This was predicted years ago when the Republicans started their anti- public education crusade by cutting off the money to education and giving it to the 1% Tea Bags for everyone.

An almost 2 million dollar request for increased taxes!!! That is a pretty big raise request. If I lived in the West Branch district my vote would be no.
