Did, not really taking it personally except the comment addressed directly to me. I love the freedom given here to express different opinions. And pleasure of council is not about official business. I would be glad to announce the wishes, comments, and requests of any Salem resident at that time. I also sincerely wish for Salem's prayers for my family in good and hard times, and we have both. As for bringing businesses and jobs here, we have so much to offer in Salem. We need to work to make Salem attractive to business, train our work force to compete for jobs, and improve the Ohio tax code to be business friendly. And that's just a small slice of what needs to happen.

"Cyndi I applaud your desire to listen to those that you represent."

That is NOT the problem. Cyndi this was not about you. But you did exactly what I knew you would took it personal.

I am going to ask you an honest question?

Did asking for prayers for your children official City business of the people in a council meeting? How many of your constituents would love to hand you a list of their hopes and prayers?

Enlighten us. What is your idea to generating revenue for the City of Salem?

Cyndi I applaud your desire to listen to those that you represent. I wish more of our elected officials shared your attitude. I think it is a wise person that will seek advise from others. That is what our government is to be: a government of the people, by the people and for the people. I think we have too many people in office that think they were elected king and not as a representative of the people. Keep up the good work.

Well, at least we know that Watchdog better be at this open forum to discuss our future...

Also money is not the only answer but getting more of it into the city and in the hands of the public is the goal. We have a possibility of financial growth in the city now and I believe that good planning is the method to ensure we and those who follow us know what the true financial needs of the city are BEFORE we spend the city money. Don't think for a minute I don' t add my ideas to the mix, I do. But I am smart enough to know that I don't know everything and listening to others helps me put my ideas into prospective. I try to ask for facts to back up the opinions and ideas of people with whom I speak so my vote is based on solid ground not emotion.

Maybe I am wrong, but I believe I was elected to represent the people of the fourth ward at city council. If I don't seek public input, how can I do that? There have been several times that what I want to do is different from what my voters want done. In those cases I have researched long and hard, informed those voters on the results, and worked to get the vote correct for all. Sometimes I get to vote my ideas, some times I don't, and sometimes we have found an agreeable compromise. The only time I will refuse to change is in the situation of immoral, illegal, or where the input from voters is too small to represent the majority. I welcome input. I seek out input from a broad range of people in my ward. I read these bogs to help to do that. I really am trying several methods to keep my fingers on the pulse of Salem. Apathy is suicide for Salem and negativity is mass murder. But that's my opinion.

Until this Council sees the entire City as a whole and brings in the 21st century...all of this will be nothing but a waste of it has been in the past.

Cyndi, your comment doesn't make me sad. Your response is frustrating.

KsBug79 is right on with his comment. Do you know what I see with this stretch this council is pulling? You and the others are bailing out. You are turning to the public for how to do it...because you and the rest of the members are failing at your jobs. If you have to turn to the public for their ideas and input to bring Salem out of this stagnant growth it is in...then why are any of you sitting on council? I am not trying to be disrespectful but you just opened that door with this "committees, sub-committees, plans, studies". Join a committee! Join a committee...we need thinkers! You follow this yet? What is your excuse for why this city is not prospering? M O N E Y

So what difference will all these committees make...more ideas that can't be funded? Why don't you just hang a "suggestion box" outside of is the same result.

Bug, your comment makes me sad. I understand that things move slowly and there is very little money, but, don't give up. Yes business owners are getting things done with their own money, and that is commendable and the way it should be. Govt isn't here to give hand outs though I admit the trend on that one at fed level is proving me wrong. Council needs a plan or we just keep reacting with no goal in sight. We spend money on one thing only to hear that something else was needed. I don't see anything huge happening fast. But I am hopeful that this plan will work as a road map for our future. Your previous comments tell me that you are a strong thinker. Why not join a committee to help Salem create this map? Seriously.

WHATEVER!!! committees, sub-committees, plans, studies, it's all the same retoric...nothing ever gets done. What ever happened to that 5 figure Ohio State study done some years ago?? Yeah, I didn't figure you'd remember that one. The only thing getting done in this town is buy those business owners who want to do it themselves, not because this lame council does anything!!
