As a council member, I think this is fair.

How effective is this going to be? It looks like a lot of the weekend warrior politicians, particularly township trustees and small town mayors, are still making enough to meet the new standard for getting a full pension. These figures were taken from just one of 88 counties in Ohio. What's the grand total across the state to give out all of these pensions? When your local police and fire departments have patrol officers and firefighters that are working well into their sixties or more, then you will know why.

Of course Cyndibaronzzidickey would think this is fair, she already has health insurance, she sat on council for a short time, you have people such as trustee's who have held those positions for years and now they are not going to receive health insurance when they retire not, fair at all Cyndi others may not be in your position and need that insurance.

"trustee's who have held those positions for years"

That is an atrocity in itself. The people's business hog tied by career politicians in it for the benefits.

Public servants (almost extinct words) that are unhappy with benefits...find another career. Nobody holds a gun to your heads to do it.

Oakleaves take that whimper somewhere else, the American taxpayers are FED up with it.

"As a council member, I think this is fair."

Well of course you do Cyndi. After viewing the last three city council meeting video's it is MORE than fair taking into consideration you sat there like a bump on a log. In fact, the only issue you completely had interest in was "asking for well wishes and prayers for your Children's marriages".

I'd say YOU should be more than happy with that burden on the taxpayers you get.

Thx dog. Why should very casual part time employees earn full time benefits. If you make less than $400.00 per month, which council member do, you better have another job to furnish your living and benefits. Council positions were never meant to be a career. My council fee is to cover the expenses involved in doing the job and being available. As for bump on a log, it takes a lot of homework to prepare for each meeting and many committee mtgs to keep up to date on issues presented at the actual council meeting. Also I was participating. But it is easy to sit on your log and judge. But then I'm not taking it personally. Lol.

Welcome Dick

"Why should very casual part time employees earn full time benefits."

My response: Define part time employees? If you are referring to City Council members (keyword > MEMBERS) why should these "casual" employees receive any benefits other than their generous fee as you describe that wage?

Cyndi says: "If you make less than $400.00 per month, which council member do, you better have another job to furnish your living and benefits. Council positions were never meant to be a career."

My response: I guess you missed the comment I responded with to oakleave's comment."

Cyndi says: "My council fee is to cover the expenses involved in doing the job and being available."

My response: Accountability s.ucks doesn't it Cyndi? It is taxpayer's money paid to you to assist you in absorbing your expenses and working for the people and their business..****prehend the difference. We don't work for you Cyndi, you work for us. Earn it. Word of advice? Stop making this about your money. Start making this about the people’s money.

Cyndi says: “As for bump on a log, it takes a lot of homework to prepare for each meeting and many committee mtgs to keep up to date on issues presented at the actual council meeting.”

My response: Blind trust? Cyndi, welcome to accountability. Taxpayers and residents are fed up with blind trust in what you may or may not be doing behind the scenes of the council chambers.

Cyndi says: “Also I was participating. But it is easy to sit on your log and judge.”

My response: Yes it is, because you make it easy. All of you on Council make this very easy. Plus it my responsibility as taxpayer to hold you accountable. You many not like that but that is our democracy. Instead of playing wounded, take off your councilwoman shoes and put on a pair of resident shoes and watch all three videos. YOU may know what those issues, ordinances, numbers consist of but I can promise you 80% of Salem’s population doesn’t have a clue. They will see those videos just like I did. The public’s faith in Government is at an all time low and that is your biggest enemy… not me. Each of you holds the power to change that. The public needs you to start asking the tough questions. You have the voice…USE IT. We don’t need these one liners reported from the Salem news.

We need to know where our Council and leaders stand on these issues and the fight or questions that brought you there. Now that you are probably mad.

I don’t want your job. I am not going sit and pretend that I could do your job better then you. I am not going to pretend this job is not hard and challenging. I would have no business sitting on council. I could not pull off “politically correct” as many of you do. I would be out the door within weeks. I don’t have the patience to pacify the public that storm chambers with their busy body complaints. I despise “popularity contests”. The public has a responsibility to attempt to solve their own problems first. Not just dump on council. You are not referees. You are not a complaint department. You are legislatures. The last resort to holding other elected officials accountable.

This nice club is getting old. So Councilwoman, take from this what you will, laugh if you must…but I can promise you this. I will seize every golden opportunity I can to light spark under a resident or even your butts. You wanted community input to the important matters of this city. I will wake every resident up one way or another. When you are successful…I am successful…this city is successful. Any other goal is just leaving us spinning our wheels.

Watchdog I don't know why you are jumping all over Cyndi. She said she agreed with the fact that part time positions should not get health ins. I don't believe Salem City council members get it now.So why the harsh attack? Did you misunderstand what the lady said??

Someone talking about credibility while hiding behind a screen name. Why should anyone take you seriously Watchdog? Why a tirade against Cyndi? Remember when you essentially said I wasn't allowed to argue with Patti Hannah because of her supposed credentials? What are your credentials? Why don't you run for council? You're a coward, that's why. You can't even speak for yourself, only or "Watchdog". At least Cyndi is willing to put herself on the line and sit on council. And on top of that, she's going above and beyond by throwing herself into the discussion here...and she could easily do it behind a pseudonym like you do. But here you are, talking about ACCOUNTABILITY.

Just an FYI, I will respond to everything you say from now on that you need to be held accountable for your words and you won't be credible until you speak for yourself and not as "Watchdog". There is no dog in you, you're a scaredy-cat.

Guarantee you can't do it. You can't tell us who you are and be held accountable for your words. You're hammering a woman for the money she receives for her public service and telling her to worry about our money, not hers, after she agrees with a move that saves tax payer dollars. Do you understand why that strips you of any credibility? You're a bigger whiner than a fat, spoiled 5 year old who wants an ice cream cone. Seriously, you find a way to complain about anything and rarely can you really articulate a reason past saying "we the taxpayer". I honestly believe that even if they hired more cops youd complain about paying them after screaming about not having enough for years. It's getting old. Step up to the plate, tell us who you are and quit hiding. Be accountable!

I mean, forget running for council, you would never even go to a meeting and present an idea for fear of using your own name, prove your credibility and be held accountable would you?

OMG concerned, quite the contrary, I'm not attacking her, she happens to be one of the two on council with that entire bunch that even gives me a glimmer of hope for progress in this city. Go read my other comments she is noted in on other news articles. She has a voice. She is on the same page with the entire city. I want her to dig her heels in deep. All you have to do is watch the city council meetings and you can see who is controlling the majority. Like she said on another article...she faces opposition on COUNCIL. She needs the public to support and strengthen her. She can't do it alone. She is about the only one that makes it about the people. We lose her it's over. I light the spark under her because I want to see her fighting mad. Salem needs her. Like I said, concerned this is not a popularity contest. If she was upset from what I threw at her...then she's not the City council woman I believe she is.

So I was harsh. She will live from it.

Oh and concerned. She is still a politician and elected official. She is fair game. Your comment surprised me. I know you like her. Who doesn't. She is a sweet women...too sweet.

If we are going to ever get back to the democracy of our country that we all loved. People controlling Gov. instead of the Government controlling people. I thought you of all people supported that.

Well alright, tell me how I function in life. Tell everyone. You seem to have a file on me, so why not open it up? I have nothing to hide and the scariest part about that to you is that I'm not scared of anything you can say about me. I do have crane rentals to worry about, in fact, I likely just locked down a rental at the new hospital building for a discounted price. If you'd like to continue talking about my productivity I'd welcome it. If you're attempting to mock my business then I'd welcome that to, that's only going to serve to destroy Watchdog's reputation further--though I'm certain you aren't incredibly worried about that since you aren't willing to but your real reputation on the line behind your words. Watchdog the scaredy-cat, how ironic.

Hold me accountable.... that is hysterical? How with your big bad bruised ego? Go away Grant your annoying.

The most pathetic thing about you is that you have taken my name and apparently searched the internet for me and found some things out about me. And then attempted to use that against me....under a pseudonym. It's really pretty sad Watchdog, you're incredibly inconsistent and I can see why, you don't have to own up to anything you say.
