Bottom line? What are you or I going to do to change society? Nothing!! Just get a gun and hope to blow one of these scumbags away before something bad happens to you or your family. Against self defense? Fine, you can always just move along smartly and hope to not become a victim.

When the East Liverpool prosecutor said they were going to stamp out drugs, war on whatever this time I said this and it is the truth. If you don't burn down the houses and make them bleed, you will not stop the trade in your area. Learn to live with it or leave.

Feel good society ! I think it should be called the who gives a s--- society.

The people at the top won't be happy until they have more than the other guy. The ones at the bottom just keep more ." I know of one couple whose complaining they don't get enough free hours on their free phone "

And of course whats left of the middle clas who keeps shrinking and set back while the politicians attack SS, Medicare , Pensions And exspect us to cover all the costs of run away gov.

All they talk about whose going to win the house or senate in 2014 or will be the presidential candidate in 2016.

THe lobblists control everything in Washington. That's why you never see our debt go down because they fear the loss of the almighty vote and job.

You can't hire enough police to solve these problems'

Our cities are being turned over to the drugs and gangs in some cases.

Our country is divided between the haves and have nots.

The people running it is more concerned about the next election rather than dealing with the hugh problems we face now

Enoughtalk I agree with a lot of what you said. However I don't see where tougher penalties for crimes involving guns are going to do any good. What if he had been stabbed or beaten to death with a club. It is not the instrument of choice to deliver the blow that is the problem. It is the mind that wants to do this, that is the problem. I don't say that because I am a real gun lover. I don't own a gun, never have and have no plans to get one. The problem is much deeper than guns or even the drugs. The problem is a society that has enabled the type of behavior that promotes the type of thinking that produces these results. We live today in a feel good society we only want what makes us feel good. We don't want any pain or problems. We want everything given to us and if we can't have it given to us we take it. IF any one stands in the way they are likely to get bumped off. What we need is a national revival and turning away from the self centered feel good mindset that plagues us.

I dont think hiring more officers will help. The criminals will get caught but then only serve short sentences and then released. To solve these issues you need tougher drug penalties, stiffer sentences for gun crime and real habilitation for convicted criminals. The current system doesnt work. Both of these guys had previous convictions and went to jail. They were released without being habilitated. The drug business is a never ending cycle where there is just too many profits to be made along the way. Prison, police, judges, lawyers and many others all recipients of the revenue it creates. Yet the familes are left with the fatalities.

We need more police officers not more housing inspectors. I really don't understand this councils priorities. How many murders do we have to have in this town to see that there are serious problems. The problem is not whether rental units have smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, ground fault plugs in the kitchen and bath and hand rails along steps. None of those things will help keep this city safe. It is not until the undesirable element that live in some of these places are forced to take their illegal acts someplace else and that can only be done by cracking down on the drug activity in this town with an adequately staffed determined police force.

I think Salem already is an undesirable spot for criminals but they are just too dumb to figure it out. Salem is still small enough that any serious crime gets huge amounts of lasting attention.

Yea, it's on the original article. It's just sad what drugs are doing to our city. Bring in how many officers you need but we must get this town cleaned up and make it an undesirable spot for this type of scum.
