People if you are really wondering why health care costs are out of control, here's the proof and your looking at it. I wonder if they are going to leave mints on the pillow.

Watchdog, I bet you were one to complain that the hospital didn't have private rooms, or it wasn't up to the times, or complained about parking, etc. etc.*******if you do and*******if you don't.

We could always go back to the army cots and field hospitals.

Their is a reason for the single patient rooms.Lets see if they can figure it out.

I'd like to see one thing done in this community that received support rather than the typical line of critizism

Guess people like things the way they are.Going backwards

Hey Arca23, I never complained about any of those things, I don't use that hospital. But hey if you are into vacationing at a band-aid station that would be your cup of tea and your willing to absorb those high prices in your bill. Knock yourself out. I'm not into fancy hospitals, I am looking for quality affordable healthcare and quality medical staffs. Fancy hospitals don't make the Doctor nor the care.

Ladybug this is not criticism it is disappointment. A hospital that has to life flight people out on a regular basis. Now because of the un-AHC, we have to start shopping for healthcare that fits our budget. Not strain them. That is the healthcare system we have been hand delivered.

Look around watchdog. All or most are to the one room .

Its being demanded by the feds. Second the reson is to prevent infections or unless you like the sneezing coughing visiters from the patient in the other bed.

and yes medi vac is used by all hospitals to transport to special facilities But hey !

Salem residents should be pround that their hospital has improved it's emergency room services and surgery facilities. And now it's patient care .

No hospital can provide every service, That's why there.s a medi vac unit setting in Boardman to take petients from area hospitals to special units , Cleveland,Pittsburg and Akron childrens

Ladybug what is all that rambling on about private rooms?

You want vacation in a fancy private room. Knock yourself out.

One more thing. Do you have any clue the cost of those flights? WE PAY FOR THAT LADYBUG.

Plus on top of that. Salem Hospital is not in my network thanks to Obamacare. And Salem hospital playing that name game changer and building a parking garage and private rooms didn't change anything when it comes to insurance.

They don't deal with serious illness. It's a band aid station.

Obamacare just started .You where whining and crying when they first start ed bldg. this addition.Maybe you should research things about the reasons for the single before complaining

And I 'm fully aware the cost of a life flight.

And if the hospital was capable of all services you think they should provide .You would still complain like you do about everything..

Watchdog I really have a hard understanding your constant beef with everything. The single room was designed for patient and family comfort. To provide better care. But most of all reduce chance of infections which is a major concern at all hospitals.

And yes Salem is a small community hospital and cannot provide the services of a Cleveland Clinic or Pittsburg Hospital with 100's of thousands patients.

Life Flight is very exspensive and used when rapid transport is needed to a special treatment hospital.

Salem gives good care with in it's means. Don't like it .Go elsewhere

Ladybug is making the case for me, but excuse me if I don't take my marching orders from someone who needs to be heavily medicated. I mean look at you, you're literally on here complaining about your local, PRIVATE hospital's service after they spent a lot of money (that you didn't have to contribute any of by the way) to be able to provide better service. You speak as if you're paying for the hospital personally, even though you claim that going there would be beneath you, and they're squandering your money because they don't provide the level of service the Cleveland Clinic does in a town of 11,000. You're probably clinically insane, so you can give me every bit of advice you want, just because it makes sense to you doesn't mean it makes sense to anyone else. You are not God, despite your incredible desire to be seen that way.

My wife spent 4 days in the hospital.

With the woman on the other side of the curtain moaning and groaning all night. She got very little sleep. With this woman womans visters coughing ,sneezing and spreading germs it's a wonder my wife didn't up with a staff infection. which can get very serious..

I know of a friend who who ended up with and spent from 6 to 8 months in 3 different hospitals and 100's of thousands of dollars in medical bills treating it. Enough said

I am hoping and praying that there is another positive consequence of the hospital getting bigger and better.

Salem needs new business/jobs. With a better hospital, perhaps we can cultivate related medical businesses in town. Whether its another outpost for doctors from Akron Children's, etc. to come in and see patients a few days a month (like they do in Boardman), or something more dealing with medical supplies or equipment, or testing, or, actually I have no idea what options there are, but there have to be several. Some visionary needs to think of ways to spread our from here and help the city as well.

I don't know what Mr. Kosiba with the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center or other city groups/individuals are doing to cultivate business, but doesn't trying to capitalize on corresponding medical businesses make sense?

I'll get off track here, but I thank God for the local surgeon who 20 yrs ago stopped in my husband's hospital room and said I should take him to Cleveland Clinic.

He wasn't my husband's Dr. Didn't know us.

The local (Salem/Alliance) specialists were going to "monitor" something, after performing surgery to fix what they initially thought was the problem.

Cleveland doctor looked at same info and said he had kidney cancer, but it looked contained and so 95% sure removal of the kidney would cure it. If we had waited and it had spread, that cancer was not considered curable.

Cleveland Dr said cancer was large, and that since we were probably people that would credit God--we definitely should.

So I'm thankful a local Dr overstepped his bounds and said: Go elsewhere. (And I don't know if that would have happened in a bigger city hospital) And I'm thankful Cleveland is in our backyard.

(But I've read people don't have access to Cleveland with Obamacare)
