I agree with Watchdog, only "steaming" puts it mildly when I learn about past offenses.

We're back to the fact that lately all these perpetrators of "big" crimes were guilty of smaller scale same kind of stuff in the past.

Please, hit a first DUI offender with the max (I can about guarantee it wasn't really his first offense, just first caught). Maybe that's a place we can take a lesson from Europe--the first penalty is so great is truly is a deterrent.

Letting someone off with a slap on the wrist is no deterrent.

I am steaming on this. Robert's has a negligent past track record. DUI, speeding, domestic, stalking, drunk, bunch of stuff our Salem Pd had got him on his bad driving habits before and he didn't learn from any of those incidents, I doubt seriously this cold hearted animal will ever change.

What he did to Olivia is beyond human. Ohbrother, Pike is a fine and caring man? Yep, it is real OBVIOUS and problematic with his position. The criminals and repeat offenders LOVE HIM.

"Have to agree watchdog, what was the Prosecutor thinking?"

That he is comfortable in his position because he has a voter registration of people dumber than a box of rocks and he has free rein with no accountability!

That is like this "public speaking" joke. You think Herron or the Judge care? Nah. They never gave any consideration to the community with that stupid move. They slap him on the wrist, ticks off the public even more, and they are going to throw him back into the community for "public ridicule"? It will never even happen. His defense attorney will file on his behalf that his life is in danger, he's been threatened and blah blah blah and he will get out of doing it. That is how stupid Herron played this with his wheel and deal. Nobody is going to forget what this jerk did to Olivia. I don't think "mangled body" is ever going to leave anyone's mind when it associates to this POS.

The last paragraph of this story refers to a plea deal being accepted. This means the family had to agree to it. It also means the attorneys are to darned lazy to prepare a case to go to a jury. That's WORK, a dirty four lettered word. Over the years (I'm an old gal) I've decided that attorneys and used car salesmen are the laziest people on earth but at least the used car salesmen don't destroy families. I'm disappointed in Judge Pike who I know to be a fine and caring man. Shame on you for this one, Judge.

Two charges?? Four years for aggravated vehicular homicide. Only 4 years? Probation for the hit/skip? Probation? I can see why everybody is through the roof on this. Have to agree watchdog, what was the Prosecutor thinking?

Public speaking? Who was the idiot that decided that? I am not sure how other parents feel about this. But I don't want this SOB speaking to my children about anything. I don't want any convict within 100 feet of my kids. I can promise you this, he won't be. Even if it means hiring my own attorney. They are not going to force their screwed up justice system down my throat and use my kids and our school system as a punishment system for ridicule for this jerk, sry Ms Dickey, but it is not going to happen.

Dianad I understand what you meant and I was not trying to be mean to you nor disrespect your opinion. I made my view based on I will never hold anyone in a count for their limits of when or how or choose to forgive someone. It is not always as that. I am sorry that you misunderstood my response to you.

Jabronie I know you what you meant when you wrote your comment. I understood completely what you tried to angle your thought and emotion to and I am sorry that nobody picked up on it.

You clearly to me was trying to make the point, that if the shoes were on the other feet and Mr. Roberts had to face exactly what the Thompson's endured would he have felt the same in how he treated this family. Sometimes when we make comments out of quick emotion and hit the post comment link and you reread it and there is no way to change it. I understood it.

Watchdog I was just stating my opinion about forgiveness and how truly important it is, if and when the family of this dear child forgives is up to them but if they choose to forgive it will be a step to healing some of the pain. That being said, I do not agree with the sentence, much too lenient but only God will be the true judge. Hopefully all involved can find some sort of peace and trust in God to help them find the peace they so desperately need

Cyndi, I would normally address you as Councilwoman by the use of your respected and much deserved title that you have earned in so many many ways. But not today, nor in this case. I hope you will forgive that.

I do not believe for one second, that you wrote you comments based on political correctness nor by any use of your political position in a defense run on behalf of Judge Pike or PA office with respect to their elected positions/party affiliation. I want you to know that.

I see you as a family member who endured the most tragic event in life any family could endure...a death of beautiful, innocent child. Because of that it will be even harder on myself in choosing the words I use next. I do not want to be responsible for inflicting any more pain on this family...

Couldn't. From what I could tell he was. Upset with this crime and also agreed that this as terrible. Again thank you. We are all praying for grace and that mr. Robert's heart will change. I believe that maybe some other child may be saved from this fate if mr Roberts does his community speeches. That is the best we can hope for. That no other child dies this way. I also pray that some good person steps up to fill the role of father for mr Roberts' children. Thx again

I want to say thank you to all of you and all of Salem for the support and caring you have shown over the past 15 months and today. I am so grateful to live in a place as wonderful as Salem. No sentence can ever be enough to make up for who mr Roberts took from our lives. A plea was excepted by Livy's parents and the defense. Enduring a long trial that may not even have happened for another year or more would have been terrible. The defense would have made us view security tapes of the actual murder and tried to present some reason that Livy herself was to blame, being a child. All in all it may have been more than anyone should endure. And then he would only get 1 to 2 more years and a chance of parole. This way he according to judge pike will have a "definite four year in jail" judge pike also made his 4 years if probation on the leaving the scene charge start after the 4 years in jail instead of at the same time. He also told Roberts that he had a lot he'd like to say to

Umm Watchdog. This man has not served any time yet.. Until yesterday he was walking free still driving still working still going home to his children still drinking. I agree 4 years is not nearly enough time for Miss Olivia whom I knew and loved dearly. 4 years is not enough time for taking any human life. My prayers are that he can find true remorse for what he has done and develop a relationship with The Lord.

Dianad I will forgive when I see fit to forgive. Starting with Herron and Pike on their hands and knees in front of the Thompson family begging them for their forgiveness in this TRAVESTY of justice for their little girl.

Then, YOU, Mr. Wheel and Deal, reward him with a plea bargain. Because that guilt verdict makes a notch in your belt. The man gets credit for the time already served in the county jail, a whole year that he had to think about what he did but STILL had no remorse for Olivia or her family because of his actions. He learned NOTHING. Then he gets a sentencing so mild that he will lucky if he serves 12 months.

Then, to slap this community in the face, you send him back into the community to the very same devastated local schools where Olivia classmates and friends will be used as pawns in your political game. Just to have him, play a pretend sympathy game that will obvious bore him, so YOU can pat your political back while playing it off that I am trying to educate the children. All while, Olivia’s little body lays in the cold, dark ground and a family that will be forever devastated for the rest of their entire lives when they have to see his PATHETIC FACE in real time.

He endangers the public, kills Olivia in his path, totally destroying another family and inflicts horrible pain on them. Proceeds to go down the street and stops and is ticked off over the damage that careless kid caused to his precious truck because of that 130 feet, showing no remorse for his children or Olivia. He takes off and goes home and heads right back out for his party and booze night! Determined nobody was going to stop him and ruin his selfish night of fun fun fun in Salem. While Roberts was having the time of his life partying that night. Our community, the first responders and even one our own City council members had to endure the horror of what this man inflicted upon them and dealing with the pain and devastation he left behind as they cleaned up his mess.

the consequences?

Seriously Herron, I don't know why you just didn't reach in your desk drawer and print out one of your notorious certificates and give him "Father of the year" award.

But by the looks of that wheel and deal, YOU, did just that.

You awarded a father, so selfish and uncaring that was being followed by his own children in another vehicle begging for him to come home to them? A man that didn’t care about his own children when he apparently was trying to get away from them so fast that he was speeding down State street in excessive speeds and passing cars? Because his obvious partying and booze night was more important to him than his own children?

The only two people I see here that is sick, twisted and a complete and utter failure to this little girl, her family and our community was ...HERRON and PIKE.

What a total DISGRACE!

Who in the*****wheels and deals a case like this? With all the contributing factors and circumstances of this case? This man's past track record? His total disregard for the public and their safety? What a total travesty to Olivia!

What was it this time Herron? Who you going to blame for your inexcusable actions and failures now? The police? They didn't do a good enough investigation for you to take this to fullest extent of the law and prosecute him to get a acceptable punishment for the crime he committed? Did you put a price on Olivia's head? Was her little body mangled "to much" for your budget?

What was it? Did you have soft spot for the "partying, booze and pickup truck" that was more important to Robert's than even his own children let alone Olivia that suffered the

The hate will eat you up inside, although I know it is hard, forgiveness is the key to moving on. I can not imagine what they are going thru but forgiveness and time will help but will never totally take away the agony. God forgives us for every sin, we must try to forgive others, even if it takes a long time. And yes I believe he should have gotten a lot more time. He needs to pay for what he did
