In defense of her father To the editor: As I am sitting here at college reading the Salem News online, I could not help but take note of one article in particular....

Daughter and your fathers contributions to the county. All the time you missed with him while he worked for others will be rewarded to you and your dad. And eventually the bad mouthers will move on to someone else. The love and pride you have in your father is more valuable than anything else.

Mariah, I like you, grew up with a father in politics. I understand your feelings. It is so difficult to hear strangers speak badly about the father you love. I am sorry that you also had to endure this. My father was in the prosecutors office all my young years and first ran and won the actual prosecutors position when I was 10. My siblings and I constantly heard absolutely everything strangers wanted to say about our dad. We sometimes wanted to hide when strangers approached, not knowing if they would praise him or curse him. Unfortunately that is the result when a politician actually does his job. Those who shrug their responsibilities and just tell people what they want to hear, have few enemies. We endured death threats and nasty phone calls many times over the years. But today my father is 80 and I am just as proud to be his daughter today. This county is better because of his and our sacrifice.
