Thank god we don't have a fire district, because it's not as if Salem and Perry both show up any time there is an actual fire anyways..

That just goes to show you what the fire district deal was really all about,

Mutual aid does the same thing without any cost.

And there was still atleast 3 or 4 nearby depts. that could have and would have helped.

Without any cost? You seem to be ignoring the savings provided by having the district rather than two separate entities.

Where's that savings coming from ?

Salem would have had a savings by having less full-time fire fighters. Plus shared equipment.

OK ! Now where are you to get 30 to 40 volunteers willing to take the training and give up their time for nothing or little compensation.

Salem runs 1300 incidents /yr and Perry around 140/yr. or approx., 4/day.

Now which ones are you going to eliminate ?

And what does Perry Twn exspect to gain. More free water ?

Medical Emergencies ?

Approx 900 to 1000/yr .between the 2 depts.

Hope a local ambulance shows up in time .After 5 minutes the patient recovery goes down hill

How about auto accidents. Your trapped in your burning car waiting for an ambulanvce crew.

Of course volunteers normally not at the station .So you have to page them .

Loosing time and cars running threw town with their red lights and sirens going 4 times a day.

You people should thank god you well trained paid and volunteers to protect your worthless -----.

Always looking for an easy way out.

Unless your willing to do it you better find out what it's all about first.

Ask yourself how many hours these people spent at this fire. And how many hours spent afterwards cleaning hose, equipment trucks, filling air bottles etc so the could be ready for the next call ?

I'm not making a point here, this is just an honest question.

When the Perry volunteers came and fought a Salem house fire with the paid union Salem firefighters, were any of them resentful of that? I think I would be--sorry, that's not nice, but I believe it would be true for me.

Resentful about what ?

That's why its called mutual aid.Provides extra man power and equipment. Reduces costs .Like police, these people are each others brothers and share common ground.

Because of mutual aid .There is extra man power and equipment anywhere in the county or area a phone call away.

But before ladybug, you asked where the savings would have come from.

I just answered your question. Obviously, the "merger" was voted down.

But that is where the savings would have come from.

But if I'm doing "your" work (a Salem fire), beside you, and you're being paid and I'm not, that's what would irritate me.

I wish that wasn't true, but i think it would be, at least for me.

They didn't even offer to lower our water rates.

I pay more for water and sewer for exactly the same water being used 1 street over.

Yeah, money savings-wise, it was mostly to Salem's benefit.

But it wouldn't have cost non-Salem Perry township residents anything, so why not?

It would have been "mutual aid" with Salem saving money. Is that so awful?

I didn't know that about the water rates. I'm a block out of Salem too. Guess I've been paying more too and never knew.

Would you have been in favor of it if it Had reduced the water rates?

First of all, I would think that if a volunteer was resentful of working with paid fireman that he wouldn't of went to help. Pretty sure they know what they are goin to and what it is before they leave their house. Secondly, since u are the "questioner" I would think u would of went to the firehouse and asked about mutual aid or how things work on a fire scene. That would be to logical. Instead u join the other 5 people that are always talkin about the fire department without knowing the facts. Councilman Drummond posted that anyone is welcome there anytime to ask questions. Thirdly, there is a homeless family and possibly could of been 2 more homeless if the fire department didn't get there so quick. I think they do a great job. I'm glad we have a full time fire department because it's not something I would want or could do. Ask yourself the same question u say their not needed.

I would only support something that would actually benefit everyone .
