The man killed another. Being a solider or drunk doesn't change that. He confessed. And needs executed not feeling of compassion.

I don't think many legitimate self defense cases are successfully made for a person with a record of violence like his either.

I am not going to argue the validity of the charge. It is agreed that he took someone's life. Whether it was a knife or some other instrument, if he was drunk he should not have used it. Too often we read about the lack of culpability due to impairment. Impaired or not, he was wrong, even if it is proven that the bouncer was wrong as well. The old saying "two wrongs never make a right" is very much applicable here. He deserves to go to prison for this crime.
