Nick Costa of the Salem High School soccer team places a flag on a grave at Salem's Hope Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Members of various community organizations joined together to place the flags on all the war veterans' graves at Hope and Grandview cemeteries in preparation for Memorial Day. The organizations included the Salem High School soccer team, American Legion Charles H. Carey Post 56, Amvets and Jr. Amvets Post 45, the Salem VFW Post 892 and the Cub Scouts Troop 3. Tom Scahill of the Patriotic Association said placing the flags on the graves displays the rich history of Salem. "You look out and see all those that have served our country," he said. "There's a lot of history here." (Salem News photo by Kevin Howell)
