The Rev. and Mrs. Charles E. Bancroft of Hartville were honored on May 31 by their children during a private dinner celebration for their 60th wedding anniversary.
The former Ida Mae Bolyard and Rev. Bancroft were married on June 5, 1948, at the Adrian City Friends Church in Adrian, Mich., by the late Rev. Walter Bailey, assisted by the late Rev. Edward Escolme.
The Bancrofts are graduates of the Cleveland Bible College (now Malone College) with Rev. Bancroft also graduating from Baldwin-Wallace College. Rev. Bancroft served as pastor at four churches in Ohio: Celina Friends Church, the Barberton Evangelical Friends Church, the East Goshen Friends Church, and the Anderson United Methodist Church. He also served as chaplain from 1990 to 1998 at Crandall Medical Center and Copeland Oaks Retirement Center in Sebring.
Mrs. Bancroft also received a degree from Malone College and was employed at Chippewa School District and Lisbon Exempted Village Schools for a 23-year career in education. She currently is a homemaker and accompanies the Senior Choir at the Alliance Senior Center.
The Bancrofts have three children: Connie Bancroft of Alliance, Claude and Sonia Bancroft of Hartville, and Dr. Charles I. and Robin Bancroft of Canfield. The Bancrofts also have three grandchildren, Charles E. and Daniel of Canfield and C.J. of Hartville. The couple enjoys attending Canton First Friends Church, family, friends and spending time at their summer home on Gull Lake in Michigan.
