July 2, 2008
Salem News

A train derailment resulted in no injuries but closed all Salem railroad crossings Wednesday night. Unconfirmed reports said that a man standing on or beside the tracks near Wilson Avenue forced a Norfolk Southern engineer to make an emergency stop. A second train then hit the rear of the first, causing the derailment. The derailed cars were empty and remained upright, with no spills or other damage. The subject was reportedly taken to Salem Community Hospital for evaluation. As of presstime, there was no word on whne Salem rail crossings would re-open and no cranes or other heavy railroad equipment was in place.a
