Mr. and Mrs. Alex Chismar of Canfield celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 17.
Their children are Edward (Kris) of Canfield, Alice Chismar of North Lima and Kevin (Lee Ann) of Salem. They also have eight grandchildren, Steve (Meaghan) of Dover, Randy, Aby and Jed of Canfield, Chad (Lynn) and Brad Blakeman of North Lima and Kevin "Jake" and Derek of Salem. There are five great-grandchildren, Marhin, Norah, Rory, Lexus and Tyler.
The former Carol Basinger grew up in Columbiana where her parents owned Basinger Greenhouse and Floral on North Main Street until 1943 when it burned. After raising her three children, Mrs. Chismar was a short-order cook at Parkmore Restaurant in North Lima in the early 1970s. Following that, she held various jobs for local nursing homes in the area.
Mr. Chismar grew up in Green Township. He worked as a union carpenter for various contractors in the Canfield area for 20 years. While in that profession, he was able to construct his own home in 1957 which they still live in today. In 1962, Mr. Chismar graduated from barber school. He was also employed with the GE Lamp Plant in Youngstown as a maintenance carpenter which he retired from after 20 years. He was also a member of the Greenford Ruritan for 35 years with perfect attendance.
