COLUMBIANA- The Friends of the Library in Columbiana is sponsoring a used book sale Friday and Saturday in the Columbiana Public Library's Salchow Room.
The sale is open to members only from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and to the general public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds from the sale are used for a variety of programs and equipment at the library, according to Lori Garovich-Szabo, president of the Friends of the Library.
"The money is strictly for the library's use," she said. "Our goal is to provide as much money for as much programming as possible."
Currently the funds the Friends raise are providing for the library's summer reading programs, special speakers and the video game circuit membership, as well as a variety of equipment, said Library Director Carol Cobbs.
"The Friends are very generous," she said. "The funding they provide the library allow for all those extra items that are good for libraries to have."
According to Karen Campbell, secretary of the Friends, the book sales usually raise approximately $3,000.
This sale will feature over 100 boxes of fiction books and over 160 non-fiction and audio-visuals, more than 5,000 items total, Campbell said.
The sale features both children's and adult material. Cost of materials is $.25 for paperbacks, $.50 for hardbacks and $1 for audio-visuals, which include DVDs, CDs and books-on-tape.
In addition to the book sales, which the Friends hold whenever there is enough books for one, the group also provides a year-round sale rack in the library's lobby, with the same prices as the regular sales, Garovich-Szabo said.
Cost of membership to the Friends of the Library in Columbiana is $3 for individuals and $5 for families, and it can be purchased at the library's front desk.
