SALEM - Salem High School's band will represent the city in Florida's Walt Disney World this weekend when it marches in a parade at the Magic Kingdom theme park Friday afternoon.

Band director Mike Carden said 95 students will be making the trip and that the event is one of the biggest things the band will do this year.

The students left after school on Wednesday and are set to return Sunday evening.

He also said there will be about 12 adult chaperones that also go on the trip and that the students will be expected to stay in groups of four with at least one cell phone per group.

Tyler Cosma, a junior trombone player, said he believed a lot of the band members plan to enjoy the warm weather and that many of the students were excited because they haven't been to Disney World before.

James Donnalley, a sophomore trombone player, said he was pretty excited for the event since it is one of the most significant things the group does throughout the school year.

While in Florida, the students will enjoy Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theatre, where they will enjoy dinner and take an active role in a mystery play. They will also be able to enjoy various Disney theme parks during their free time.

Salem High School Principal Joe Shivers said he believed the trip was a great opportunity for the kids and that every time the band has made the trip since he's been principal the kids have really acquitted themselves well.

"I expect them to do well and have fun," he said.
