Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Smart) Lesek

salem - Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Smart) Lesek, age 84, of Salem and formerly of Warren, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, 2008, at Salem Community Hospital in Salem. She was born August 8, 1924 in Traveskyn, Penna. the daughter of the late John and Hannah (Weir) Smart.

Betty retired in 1985 as office manager for Dr. Joseph Carano in Warren. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Salem and also St.William's Church in Champion, where she taught CCD classes for 15 years.

She will be sadly missed by her devoted companion, John Novak of Warren; two daughters, Sue (Thomas) Moore of Salem and Wanda (Jim) Ciarlitto Jr. of Cortland; one son, Thomas J. (Phyllis) Lesek of Salem; two stepchildren, Al Novak of Warren and Ginny (Dave) Scarpaci of Warren, Mich.; four grandsons, Rick Metts, Joe Lesek, Vincent Ciarlotto, and Christopher Lesek, and one great- granddaughter, Lauren; two sisters, Theresa Gautschi of Champion and Dolores Halubka of Fowler and a sister-in-law, Kathy Smart of Warren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Frank V. Lesek, whom she married May 11, 1946; one son, John F. Lesek and two brothers, John and Tom Smart.

Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Williams Catholic Church in Champion at 10:30 a.m, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, with family and friends meeting at the funeral home prior to leaving for church. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.

Material contributions may be made to the memorial fund at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Salem.
