County Board of Elections will meet Tuesday
LISBON - The Columbiana County Board of Elections meeting set for Thursday to certify the general election results was cancelled and rescheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday in board offices at 41 N. Park Ave., Lisbon.
Salem Rules and Ordinance Comm. will meet
SALEM - The Salem Rules and Ordinance Committee will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the last scheduled meeting to address the lease agreement on the house in the park and related matters.
Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet
LISBON-The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold a special meeting at noon Tuesday in the board administration office, 7675 Route 45.
Teen Straight Talk schedules discussion
CANFIELD-Teen Straight Talk will host a table discussion, Around the Table, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
The hour long discussion is geared toward parents to discuss the relevant issues facing their teens. Parents will have the opportunity to explore the avenues children use to seek answers, how to use the family as a resource, and how to encourage conversations between parent and child. Parents are also encouraged to prepare and bring their own questions for the round table discussion.
For 20 years, Teen Straight Talk has placed a high value on each child's life, educating in character building skills and focusing on teaching them how to make the most excellent daily choices to protect and preserve their self worth and self value. Naval scholarship sessions scheduled
SALEM-Each year the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis awards approximately 1,225 fully paid scholarships to young men and women to earn a bachelor's of science degree from an internationally prestigious school. The process of earning one of these valuable scholarships is rigorous, highly competitive, and an a long process.
The Blue and Gold Program for Northeastern Ohio is conducting a series of Naval Academy Information meetings over the next few days to help young people between the ages of 12 and 22 prepare for, apply for, and pursue a scholarship. Local Naval Academy Midshipmen will be present to discuss their experiences and perceptions of the admissions process and the opportunities that are opening to them as a result of being midshipmen. There is no charge or obligation for attending one or more of these sessions, and reservations are not required. Local sessions are planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Salem Public Library, Salem; from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Canton Public Library, 715 Market St. North, North Canton; and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Italian American War Vets Post, 155 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Spaghetti dinner will benefit cancer victim
SALEM- A benefit spaghetti dinner with all proceeds donated to Debbie Pierson who has been stricken with cancer will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Salem Little Quakers Hall, 1688 S. Lincoln Ave. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. Pierson is a familiar face at the bingo games on Monday and Friday at the SLQ hall. She is a longtime volunteer for the organization and is currently the cashier in the office. At this time she is unable to work and is looking at numerous medical expenses. In addition to the dinner, SLQ will also sponsor a Chinese auction and is collecting donations to make baskets for the auction. Items for the auction will be on display at the bingo hall where tickets may be purchased. Donations of baked goods are also being accepted for the bake sale to be held during the dinner.
SCH Auxiliary Book Fair planned Nov. 24-25
SALEM-The Salem Community Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24-25 in the private dining room. This popular fund raiser features new books and seasonal items, sold at discounted prices. A large selection of premium-quality books will be available, including New York Times best sellers, award-winning children's books, education and reference, cookbooks, home improvement and inspirational choices. Proceeds will benefit future hospital projects. For information call 330-332-7126.
SALEM-Enrollments are being accepted in Adult Basic Literacy or GED classes which are free and are sponsored by the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. The ABLE classes serve as a refresher for reading, math, and English. They are designed to help students who need to work on basic skills at any level as well as those who are studying for the GED.
