Joseph William Arquilla
SALEM-Joseph William Arquilla, 82, of 2345 Lexington Ave., Salem, formerly of 6061 Lakeview St., Guilford Lake, died on Sunday morning at the Caprice Health Care Center in North Lima.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Achille and Angeline (LaCivita) Arquilla.
Before his retirement in 1980, Mr. Arquilla had been a fireman with the Youngstown Fire Department for 33 years. After his retirement he moved from Youngstown to Guilford Lake.
Joe graduated from South High School in 1944 and from Youngstown State University in 1952 with a BS degree in Business Administration. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem and a member of the Poland American Legion Post 15, Salem Elks Lodge 305, Italian American Club and the Salem Hills Golf Club.
His wife, Julia (Karaffa) Arquilla, whom he married April 27, 1954, preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2004.
Survivors include two sisters, Edith Arquilla of Youngstown and Norma Parks of Canfield; and a brother, Robert Arquilla of Venice, Fla.
Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Gloria Cocucci, Nancy Wilson and Dora Kraja; and a brother, Vincent Arquilla.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Father James Feta officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the Woodsdale Cemetery.
