Infants and Toddlers Program

hosts parties for Help Me Grow

LISBON-The Columbiana County Health Department's Infants and Toddlers Program hosted two parties this week for Help Me Grow families. The annual Christmas party was divided into two separate events this year because attendance was well over 300 in 2007, and registrations increased in 2008. This event has been a highlight of the holiday season for many Help Me Grow clients, and this year was no exception.

Wednesday's party was held at the Moose Lodge in East Liverpool, as it has been for many years. Nearly 200 children and adults were in attendance. On Thursday, the party was held at the Washington VFW with nearly 150 adults and children in attendance. All were served a hot lunch and every child received a gift from Santa.

All gifts were donations from community residents; tags were pulled from trees placed in area businesses that supported the effort.

Each tag described the type of gift that was needed. Fabulous door prizes were donated by the community, including 150 turkeys from the Green Family Trust. Italo's Pizza provided pizza for the party at the Moose and East of Chicago Pizza in Salem provided the pizza at the VFW.

"This would not be possible without the efforts of so many giving people," said Tammy Blankenship, program director. "The smiles on the faces of the children are bigger than all of the exhaustive effort it takes to make this happen. In these difficult economic times, donors still stepped up. Thank you to all who participated," she said.
