Financial aid night is scheduled

COLUMBIANA-Crestview and Columbiana high school guidance departments are sponsoring the sixth annual Financial Aid Night at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at Crestview High School auditorium. Representatives from Youngstown State University's financial aid department will discuss FAFSA, student loans, grants and scholarships.

Vranches earns Westminster degree

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-Forty Westminster College students met the requirements for graduation in December.

In addition, five candidates earned master's degrees. Among those candidates was Lindsay Vranches of Columbiana who earned a master's degree in counselor education.

Hiltbrand named to Otterbein dean's list

WESTERVILLE-Brett R. Hiltbrand has been named to the dean's list at Otterbein College for the 2008 autumn quarter.

He is the son of Robert and Mindy Hiltbrand of Salem.

Stamp earns dean's list at Walsh University

NORTH CANTON-Jennifer R. Stamp, daughter of Gary and Debra Stamp, 804 N. Union Ave., Salem, has been named to the Walsh University dean's list for the fall semester 2008-09.

She is a Salem High School graduate and a first-year nursing major.

East Palestine holding financial aid meeting

EAST PALESTINE-An informational meeting about financial aid for higher education will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 in the East Palestine High School Media Center. Parents of students planning higher education are urged to attend.

Information, forms and other materials regarding financial aid will be available.

Local students receive Westminster honors

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-Nearly 370 Westminster College students earned dean's list recognition for the 2008 fall semester. Area residents included:

4 Canfield: Chelsea Dean, daughter of Cynthia Dean, a freshman business administration major and graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School; John Eicher, son of John and Margaret Eicher, a senior individual interdisciplinary major and graduate of Canfield High School; Dana Griesmer, daughter of Michael and Donna Griesmer, a freshman biology major and graduate of Canfield High School; Natasha Kassim, daughter of Laurie Kassim, a senior biochemistry and political science major and graduate of Canfield High School; Nicholas Popovich, son of Joseph and Gina Popovich, a freshman music education major and is a graduate of Canfield High School; Daniel Ross, son of Diane and Fred Ross, a sophomore exploratory major and graduate of Canfield High School.

4 East Palestine: Brianne Todd, daughter of Brett Todd, a freshman exploratory major and graduate of East Palestine High School.

4 Negley: Sarah Petcovic, daughter of John and Sally Petcovic, a senior elementary education major and graduate of Beaver Local High School.

4 Salem: Sarah Bender, daughter of Lee and Judith Bender, a senior elementary education major and graduate of West Branch High School.

Taylor named Student of the Month

MINERVA-Minerva Area Christian School's November student of the month is Maggie Taylor. She is the daughter of Kim and Doug Taylor of Minerva, and an eighth-grade student.

November pupil of the month selection criteria is based upon a student's display of respect in accordance with the character of Ester in the Bible.

Maggie was nominated by teacher aide Margie Miller and was unanimously approved by vote of the MACS faculty for this honor. Miller describes Maggie as a student that handles herself in a respectful and caring manner.

Her maturity and respect for her elders, combined with her willingness to pitch in and help without being asked, show her respect for her fellow classmates as well as faculty and staff. Maggie also shares a loving, competent and helpful attitude throughout all aspects of her life.

Miller states that Maggie is a true asset to the school and is extremely respectful and tactful at all times.

"Maggie is a student who knows how be truly respectful and kind to her classmates and teachers," said school administrator Joseph Ellis.

"She is an example for the other students and is a real blessing to all who interact with her. We are pleased to award her with student of the month for November."

Minerva Area Christian School is a charter school of the Ohio Department of Education founded in 1965. MACS enrolls approximately 120 students from preschool age 3 through the eighth grade.

Lunger involved with Chancel Players

CANTON- The Malone University Department of Campus Ministries has announced that the student drama outreach group, Chancel Players, is now scheduling for the January-April 2009 season.

Chancel Players is comprised of five students who perform faith-based drama in school and churches, as well as for various community organizations.

They are celebrating their 28th year of touring drama ministry.

Among the members is Jarryd Lunger of Columbiana, a sophomore nursing major.
