A Board Member Orientation meeting was held on Dec. 19 at the Chamber office to welcome and acclimate new board members to their roles as Chamber leaders. The new members were given information regarding the Chamber organization and its mission, structure and operating practices. Each year, the Salem Chamber elects six board members during its annual dinner meeting to serve a three-year term. This class of new members will began their terms as of Jan. 1 and will serve until Dec. 31, 2011.

They will join 18 other Chamber board and division members who serve as the policy makers of the organization. The group includes the following business leaders: K. Bret Apple, Williams & Apple Law Office; Matthew Bender, Butech-Bliss; Jock Buta, Butech-Bliss; Steve Faber, Salem Memorial Building/Salem Parks; Geoff Goll, Attorney at Law; Jill Harmon, InstaCopy Center; Michele Hoffmeister, Salem Community Hospital; Jack Howells, Howells & Baird; Sue Lease, Lehmann Mills; Shelby Mingus, J. Herbert Construction Company; David Mollenkopf, Crabb Insurance Agency; Daniel Moore, The Moore Agency; Dave Nestic, NorTech; Joe Radin, Wal-Mart; Don Reash, Butler Wick & Company; Carl Romeo, Farmers National Bank; Jim Wenderoth, Consumers National Bank; and Frank Zamarelli, Salem Computer Center.

The Chamber of Commerce has the responsibility of enriching the economic well-being of the community. It is an organization of business and professional people who have joined together to work for solutions to mutual business and community problems.

These board members work together pooling their time and resources and effectively operate as an organized group making our community a better place in which to live and work.

On Friday, Jan. 9 the Board of Directors will gather to make plans for 2009. Each year the board holds a strategic planning session to work on a focused Program of Work for the year's agenda. Many ideas are discussed, and goals and objectives are drafted from that special meeting. Committee assignments are then made and the work of the Chamber organization begins upon a designated course for the upcoming year.
