Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Taugher of 1360 Southridge Drive, Salem, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 15.
The former Violet DeRienzo and Mr. Taugher were married May 15, 1944, in a solemn military wedding at St. Paul Catholic Church where a Mass will be celebrated on May 24 commemorating the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Taugher are the parents of two children, Leo J. Taugher II of Salem and Mrs. William (Susan) Gregg of University Heights. They also have two grandchildren, Benjamin Gregg of Chicago, Ill., and Christine Gregg a May 9 graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.
Mr. Taugher, a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, retired in 1976 after 25 years with the State of Ohio Department of Taxation. After his retirement he served as the accountant for DeRienzo's Restaurant until 1987. For 17 years he was the tax advisor for Insul Company Inc. of East Palestine. A member of the Salem Golf Club, he recorded a hole-in-one on July 4, 2000. His many associations include life membership in Salem Council 1818 Knights of Columbus where he served as grand knight, financial secretary, and district deputy; life membership in the Italian American Club, still serving as counselor.
Mrs. Taugher was a co-owner of DeRienzo's Restaurant. She is a member of Court Salem 1021 Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the memorial choir at the church. Also an avid golfer, she was past president of the Salem Golf Club Women's Association and recorded a hole-in-one in 2002.
The Taughers are also lifetime trustees of Our Lady's Purse at St. Paul Church.
