SHS Class of 1946

plans breakfast

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1946 plans to meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. July 28 at Adele's Place.

Weingart Cousins

meet at Perkins

ALLIANCE-Chuck Twyford was welcomed as a guest when Weingart Cousins met recently at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery.

Thirty people were present. Birthdays and anniversaries were observed. The next breakfast will be held Aug. 11.

SHS Class of '68

schedules meeting

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1968 has scheduled its next "Nite Out" at 6 p.m. Aug. 11 at Ricky's English Pub.

Real Life Church

hosts fun fest

SALEM-The second annual "Free Family Fun Fest and Hog Roast" will be held Aug. 1 at Real Life Church.

The fun fest runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and includes free games, activities and food.

There will also be free school supplies for the first 100 children.

The hog roast begins at 5 p.m. The community is welcome. For more information or directions call the church office at 330-332-0011.

Friends to host

chicken BBQ

SALEM-The Salem First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue is hosting the annual Friends Disaster Service Chicken BBQ on Aug. 15 featuring live entertainment, games, pony rides and silent auction. Dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. Cost is $9.

A children's hot dog meal is $3. Advance tickets are recommended and may be purchased at the church office.

Senior Citizens Club enjoy picnic

COLUMBIANA-The Columbiana Senior Citizens Club met for a picnic on July 14 at Grace Church with 26 members in attendance. Games and cards were played in the morning. President Charlie Hawkins offered the noon blessing. The business session followed. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Sarah Cope and Carol Turney. Readings were given by Cope, Charles Hawkins and Dwayne Hawkins. The afternoon was spent playing bingo.

Embroiderers plan

two sessions

CANFIELD-The Youngstown Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America will meet at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. July 28 at the International Order of Odd Fellows Hall in Canfield. Sally Svoboda will preside. The featured project will be a cross stitch stand up Santa Claus Christmas ornament by Colin Donohue. Those attending are to bring regular stitching supplies and magnification/lighting if necessary. LISBON-The Rambo family reunion begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the home of Jack and Virginia Harley, 42908 Route 154, Lisbon. Those attending are to bring a casserole, beverage and lawn chairs. The meats will be furnished. For more information call 330-424-5792.

West Point reunion

slated Aug. 9

WEST POINT-The 17th annual West Point reunion begins at noon Aug. 9 at the Rod and Gun Club on Route 518. The meat and beverages will be furnished by the committee. All current and past residents of West Point are welcome to attend the reunion. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs and a covered dish to share. Back-to-school

clothing sign-up

SALEM-Church Women United of Salem's Back-to-School Clothing Sign-Up will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Education Building, 251 S. Broadway Ave. Children of low income families entering grades Head Start through eighth grade in the Salem School District are eligible.

Sign-ups will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. July 29 and 30 and from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 5. No child care is provided during the sign-up. Participants must bring two proofs of income and residency, and provide the child's name, age, birth date and school grade they are entering in the fall. Monetary donations will be appreciated and may be sent to Treasurer Theresa Fithian, 180 Ohio Ave., Salem 44460.

Country Friends

4-H Club meets

ROGERS-Books were graded when the Country Friends 4-H Club met on July 6 at the Rogers Sale Restaurant. Raffle tickets to be sold for the fair were to be returned at the meeting, which were passed out last month. Group participation for Relay for Life was canceled due to Skillathon and a shortage of time to prepare for it. Members also met on July 18 to work on the fair booth and voted to have a Patriotic Community Service theme this year. Members are reminded to check their 4-H Premium book and attend all the required clinics, book grading etc. necessary for participation in the fair. Members must have project book, health papers, QA paper, drug notification and registration papers with them when they take their animals to the fair. Wristband and show numbers may be picked up on Aug. 3 at the office in the coliseum.

Sanor family

reunion held

SALEM-The Earl and Bessie Sanor family reunion was held July 19 at Sevakeen Lake.

The couple's five children were present along with many of their descendants and several guests. Gary Diehl offered devotions. Anna Mae Buckman, 88, was the oldest in attendance.

The youngest members were Aidan James Martig, 6 weeks, and Addyson Mary Alice Martig, 5 weeks. The Larry and Evelyn Sanor Romigh family claimed the largest family group. The next reunion will be held on July 18, 2010, at the same place.

R-Weigh members

recognized

SALEM-The R-Weigh weight reducing support groups met Monday at the Faith Chapel. A loss of 42 pounds was recorded for the week.

The good loser at the 1 p.m. meeting was Faith Hodnick who also received monetary awards for losing over her birthday, vacation and reached her one-half way to goal weight.

The Diamond Dolls beat the Battin' Lashes 10 to 9 winning four out of the seven baseball games played.

The good losers at the 5 p.m. meeting were Sarah Agee, Beverly Armitage and Susan Cain.

The goalies of the week were Pat Hartman and Virginia Ciotti. Jessie Rea earned the monetary birthday and vacation awards. Shirley Dias and Armitage received the birthday awards.

The Pink Powder Puffs beat the Happy Hitters 33 to 29 winning four out of the seven baseball games played. Two more baseball games remain to be played at both meetings to determine which team will plan, prepare, set-up and clean-up for the annual picnic in August.

Lake Club's after hours mixer set

POLAND-The Regional Chamber is hosting a business after hours mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at the newly renovated Lake Club (formerly Fonderlac Country Club). A complementary open bar and free buffet is available. Tickets are $25 for Chamber members and $30 for all others. Advance reservations are requested by July 30.

Cancellations received after that date will be billed. For more information call Jennifer Mascardine at 330-744-2131 Ext. 12.

SHS 25th reunion meeting set

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1984 will hold its 25th reunion meeting at 8 p.m. July 27 at BB Rooners. Reservations may be made by calling 330-337-0492.
