Betty Jean Auld Giesy

SALEM _ Betty Jean Auld Giesy of Flint, MI passed away suddenly on July 20, 2009 while traveling in Canada.

She was born in Salem on Sept. 24, 1918 to John and Clara Hahn Auld.

She was a graduate of the Salem Senior High School class of 1936 and Salem Business School. While living in Salem, Mrs. Giesy worked at McCulloch Department Store. She married Dr. John P. "Jack" Giesy, Sr. of Youngstown, OH in 1943 at the Salem Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Giesy is survived by her two sons John P. (Susan) Giesy, Jr. of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and James David (Carol Davis) Giesy of North Branch, MI; and daughter Wendy Jean (Wayne) Giesy Griffin of Lithia, FL.

Her two grandchildren are Emily Jean (Ken Hamilton) Giesy of Gilberts, IL and Stephen (Marcella Dowrie-Slater) Slater of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by her three nephews Donald F. (Coralie) Stamp, John William (Mary Ruth) Stamp, Gary James (Debbie) Stamp and her cousin James (Marty) Hollinger of Salem, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1977; two sisters Mary Elma Auld and Helen Ruth Auld Stamp of Salem, OH; her nephew, Neil Richard Stamp of Cave Creek, AZ; and longtime special friend Donald Osantowski of Flint, MI.

She was a longtime member and deacon of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Flint, MI. She was a Girl Scout leader, literacy volunteer and active member of her community. She was also an avid lawn bowler and received a Presidential Sports Award for her 40-year involvement in the CANUSA Games.

Donations can be made in Jeane's memory to the Salem Senior High School Alumni Scholarship Association: 328 E. State St, Salem, OH 44460.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
