Ilona Mihai of Youngstown portrayed Betsy Ross during a patriotic-themed assembly Wednesday at Salem Buckeye Elementary School. Various community members tied to the military service appeared to interact with the students on Veterans Day. The assembly was part of the RIF - Reading is Fundamental - program for Buckeye second-graders which is aimed at developing reading skills in youngsters. It is funded through grant money with the Salem Junior Mother's Club providing on-hands assistance. (Salem News photo by J.D. Creer)
