Winona benefit
SALEM- The Winona Friends Church will be holding a benefit dinner from 4-7 p.m. today in its Family Life Center on Whinnery Road. The benefit is for the Wehr family of Salem to help defray some the medical expenses for their son Tyler, a student at United Local High School. The meal is Swiss steak and cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Take-outs will be available. Questions can be directed to the church office at 330-222-1515.
Nativity Display
EAST PALESTINE- "The Greatest Gift" - Ozer Ministries will sponsor the 4th Annual Nativity Display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the First United Presbyterian Church, 109 West Rebecca St. Admission is free. Highlights include: a Salute to the troops; over 200 Nativities and Nativity Ornaments; a Christmas Bazaar; and themed Gift Basket Raffles. A live Nativity will be on display from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. All proceeds benefit the Tobin Center Chaplaincy Ministry. Ozer will be collecting items to send to the troops. Items needed include individually wrapped snacks (jerky, peanuts, crackers), socks, gloves, long johns and the like. Spaghetti Dinner
LISBON- St. George and St. Agatha churches are planning a Spaghetti Dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the St. George Hall in Lisbon. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. Carry-out orders will be available. Chinese Basket Raffles and a 50/50 Drawing will be also be held. Winners names will be drawn at 4 p.m.
Indoor Flea Market
COLUMBIANA- The First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Ave., will host its "Indoor Flea Market" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 in conjunction with "Christmas in Columbiana" weekend. The event will feature a quilt raffle and bake sale. Additionally, the church's Alpha Omega youth group will provide a hot lunch consisting of homemade vegetable soup, hot turkey and cheese sandwich, beverage and dessert for $5. Tables are still available by calling the church office at 330-482-2666 from 9 a.m. to noon. The deadline to reserve a table is Nov. 18.
Thanksgiving service
NEW WATERFORD- Churches and residents in the Crestview School District will celebrate a community Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46.
Members of the six churches within the district will take part in the service, sponsored by the 4C's (Crestview Churches Community Concerns), a service group that helps residents with food, clothing, utility payments, rent and other assistance.
With a "Psalms of Thanksgiving" theme, the service will feature lay readers and speakers from each church who will share snippets from the Psalms as they relate to thankfulness. A worship team composed of members of the various churches will lead music throughout the service. An offering will be taken for the 4C's.
The other 4C's churches are East Fairfield United Methodist, Middleton Friends, New Waterford United Presbyterian, New Waterford United Methodist and Zion Lutheran.
Refreshments will be served afterward in the church social room.
GriefShare seminar
NEW WATERFORD - Abundant Life Fellowship's GriefShare ministry will host a public seminar entitled "Surviving the Holidays" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 17 to help people facing the holidays after a loved one's death. The gathering will be at the church at 46469 state Route 46.
The seminar features video interviews with top Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective, and personal testimonies from people who have experienced the holidays after bereavement.
Leading the event at Abundant Life will be Betty Welker and Jay Radman, both members of the church, who have been deeply affected by the deaths of loved ones. Both, along with their families, have learned valuable strategies to cope with holiday memories as they relate to their loved ones.
Part of the seminar includes support group discussion of materials presented.
There is no charge for the seminar. Registration is not required, but further information about the seminar and the ongoing weekly GriefShare group can be obtained from Welker at 330-549-3455 or from the church office at 330-457-7317.
Cookie Walk
WINONA- The Hazel Circle of the Winona United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Cookie Walk and Craft Sale from 9 am to noon Dec. 5 at the church, 32114 Winona Road. A variety of homemade cookies will be sold for $3 per dozen.
Thanksgiving Dinner
HOMEWORTH- Pastor Larry Bradley of the Reading Church of the Brethern extends a free Thanksgiving Dinner to all people and families to be held from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 at the church at 25418 Georgetown Road. For information call the church at 330-525-7571. Leave a message if machine answers.
Food pantry
WINONA- Winona Friends Church has changed its "Food for Friends by Friends" food pantry dates to the third Saturday in November and December, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. Distribution will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
