Auction is planned today at Career and Technical Center
By MARY ANN GREIER, Staff WriterLISBON - Anyone looking for a bargain on some used equipment, including power tools, garden tools, a Kubota tractor, office shelves and kitchen appliances, can attend an auction at 5 p.m. today at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.
Vocational school personnel cleared out the closets and gathered items that have been taking up storage space for years to prepare for the auction aimed at getting rid of equipment no longer in use.
Building and Grounds Supervisor John Garwood updated board members about the auction during their meeting Tuesday night, with some taking a gander at the items themselves prior to their monthly session.
"All this equipment has been out of service for some time," he said, adding much of the equipment has been replaced with new equipment over the years or was taken out of service for safety reasons.
Some items that weren't sellable were dumped, with plans calling for anything not sold at the auction to be given to the welding and metal fabrication program to salvage for scrap.
The auction will be conducted by Baer Auctioneers Realty, with the food concessions available through the school. The board approved the extensive list of auction items at their meeting.
Superintendent Edna Anderson said money raised will go into the general fund, with the majority of the proceeds to be used for equipment purchases. She noted that some of the kitchen equipment resulted from the renovations two years ago to the school restaurant when new equipment was purchased. The board over the years has also donated old equipment to other public entities, including other school districts.
In other business, the board approved several policy revisions required by House Bill 1, including the passage of a new policy regarding care of students with chronic health conditions. Anderson said they already had a previous policy to address students with health conditions, but it was more general, with the new policy more specific.
The board also placed Tracy Roman, career tech, and Amanda Stewart, academic, on the list of certified subsitutes and employed Jill Kuhns for the adult education program.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the school media center.
