SALEM-James W. Adams Sr., 81, of 165 West Fourth Street, Salem, died at 1:36 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born, March 19, 1928, in North Braddock, Pa., the son of the late Louis J. and Marie (Myers) Adams.
Before his retirement, Mr. Adams had been employed for 37 years at Eljer's as a toolmaker. He was a member of the Salem V.F.W. Post 45 and the Italian American Club. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
His wife, Margaret (Riggs) Adams, whom he married Aug.3, 1957, preceded him in death Dec. 24, 2003. Eight brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, James W. Adams, Jr. and Edward C. (Diana) Adams, all of Salem; a brother, Sam Adams of Salem; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Gregg) Howard of Poland, Thomas, Austin and Lucas Adams of Salem; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Austin officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home prior to the services. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Salem V.F.W. Post 892 and Salem AMVETS Post 45 Burial Group.
