SALEM
Theft
Police responded to the 1000 block of E. 3rd St. at 8:27 p.m. Tuesday where the complainant advised someone put $1,239.60 in unauthorized charges on their debit card.
Bikes stolen
Police responded to the 900 block of E. Pershing St. at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday where the complainant advised his blue Schwinn bike had been stolen from the rear of the residence. He had last seen the bike in the morning.
Police responded to the 300 block of W 7th St. at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday where the complainant advised that during the past couple of days two bikes, a light blue Schwinn and purple Mongoose, were stolen.
Bad checks
Police responded to the 2800 block of E. State St. at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday where a female entered the grocery store at 8:07 p.m. April 19 and went to the customer service desk and cashed two payroll checks totaling $14,427. The checks were from Diversified Tech with an address of 309 Prospect St. in Salem. The female had shown a Georgia identification to the Walmart employee. The Salem store was contacted by an employee from the Alliance Walmart on April 23 advising they had been scammed by a person passing fraudulent checks with the same company name. The Salem store reviewed its video and was able to determine that they were also scammed. Police were able to ascertain the company doesn't exist and there is no such address on Prospect St. The Georgia ID provided did not return though LEADS as the person who cashed the checks. Police faxed a request to the Alliance P.D. to get a copy of its report. The matter is under investigation.
Domestic
Police responded to the 500 block of Fair Ave. at 9:46 a.m. where a married couple in the process of a divorce had gotten into an argument. There was no violence and the male departed on foot.
Fire
Police and firefighters responded to the 600 block of Highland Ave. at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday for a possible structure fire. Firefighters inspected the interior. There was no fire and police stood by for traffic control.
Drive off
Police received a report from the 2800 block of E. State St. where a man pumped $23 in gas and drove off without paying for it, leaving north on Cunningham Road. Information was gathered.
Animal complaint
Police responded to the 200 block of N. Ellsworth Ave. at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday for dogs at large in the area. Police observed photos of the suspect dog on the complainant's cell phone and contact was made with the resident where they came from. A juvenile there was advised of the city ordinance against dogs running at large.
Intoxicated person
Police responded to the 600 block of E. 3rd St. at 4:27 a.m. Wednesday for a man on the front porch causing a disturbance. The complainant said the man went up to his apartment and turned the television volume up. Police contacted the person and he advised he just arrived home and was relaxing on the front porch and started coughing when the downstairs tenant confronted him and he came upstairs. He said he never turned the television on. Everything was quiet when police arrived.
Threats
Police responded to the 200 block of N. Ellsworth Ave. at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday where the complainant advised that he recently evicted a tenant from a rental property and refused to return the security deposit due to damages and received a threatening call regarding it. The complainant wanted extra watch.

Traffic stop
Police stopped Chad M. Langties of Alliance in the 1100 block of W. Perry St. at 2:19 p.m. Sunday and cited him with driving under suspension.
B&E
Police responded to the 1300 block of W. State St. at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday for a reported breaking and entering between 1 an 5 p.m. The door was open and the complainant's dogs were missing and items were knocked over. It was determined that the dogs possibly knocked things over and escaped through the unlocked door. Neighbors advised the dog warden responded and captured and removed the loose dogs. The complainant was advised to contact the dog warden.
Traffic stop
Police made a traffic stop at S. Lincoln Ave. and Chestnut Grove Road at 3:05 p.m. for failure to display two license plates. Shane A. Burkhart of Washingtonville was stopped and had an outstanding warrant from Mahoning County and was turned over to deputies.
Assault
Police responded to the 1100 block of W.Perry St. at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday where a female alleged she was assaulted by a known male.
Attempted stop
Police responded to state Route 344 at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday to assist three Salem police units attempting to stop a fleeing vehicle.
Death
Police responded to the 500 block of E. Pine Lake Road at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday where an ambulance crew was already on the scene for a death.
Accident
Police responded to the 1700 block of S. Lincoln Ave. for a private property accident in the parking lot at 2:37 p.m. Monday. A man, who was unable to be identified, was arrested for no operator's license and taken to the county jail. He rear-ended another vehicle in the lot operated by Richard W. Scott of Salem who was evaluated at the scene and refused to be transported to the hospital.

Criminal damaging
A woman from the 12000 block of Duck Creek Road reported at 6:02 p.m. March 31 that someone damaged her mailbox overnight.
Failure to yield
Jared M. Christian, 20, of Youngstown, was cited for failure to yield following a two-vehicle crash on state Route 534 at 12:42 April 1. According to the crash report, Christian was traveling south on state Route 534 and allegedly failed to stop at state Route 14, pulling in front of a motorcycle operated by Tammy L. Witmer, 40, of North Lima, who was traveling east on 14.
Domestic violence
Daniel L. Owen, last of 13810 state Route 534, Salem, was arrested on two counts of domestic violence after officers responded to a domestic violence complaint at 10:22 p.m. April 3.
Failure to control
Kristen N. Callahan, 21, last of 13632 Main St., Beloit, was cited for failure to control following a one-vehicle crash in Goshen Township at 12:06 a.m. April 6 in which she was traveling east on Fifth Street and allegedly lost control when she attempted to turn north on Smith Goshen Road, exiting the roadway to the east and striking a tree.
OVI
Robert E. Miller III, last of 410 Jackson St. Apt. 1, East Liverpool, was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated following a traffic stop for improper turn at 2:51 a.m. April 10.
Criminal mischief
A man from the 18000 block of Derr Avenue in Beloit reported at 8:30 a.m. April 11 that someone egged his vehicle overnight.
OVI
Russel E. Withers, 38, last of 11140 Beaver Creek Road, Salem, was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated and criminal trespassing following a property complaint in the 11000 block of U.S. Route 62 at 2:55 a.m. April 11. According to the crash report, Withers was allegedly driving an all-terrain vehicle on private property when he crashed into a ditch and came to rest on a tree stump.
Assured clear distance
Clayton E. Groves, 30, of Atwater, was cited for assured clear distance ahead following a two-vehicle crash in Goshen Township at 10:06 a.m. April 12. According to the crash report, Groves was traveling west in the 16000 block of state Route 14 when he allegedly failed to stop for a vehicle driven by Lisa R. Miller, 40, of 821 E. Third St., Salem, who had slowed to make a left turn into a private drive, striking the vehicle after swerving into the lane in which Miller was turning.
Warrant arrest
Crystal D. Bates, last of 13135 Western Reserve Road, Salem, was arrested at 10:30 a.m. April 15 on an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office.
Driving under suspension
Finley L. Croyle II, last of 505 W. Main St., Washingtonville, was arrested for driving under suspension following a traffic stop at 12:38 p.m. April 16 for traveling left of center.
OVI
John W. Mccann, of Youngstown, was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated and open container after being stopped at an OVI checkpoint in Youngstown at 12:49 a.m. April 18.
LISBON
Confused woman
A resident of North Beaver Street who frequently becomes confused and wanders around was found doing so at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. Chief John Higgins went to the neighbor's residence and tried to take the woman home but no one answered at her house, so he brought her back to the police station until he could reach her husband.
Vulgar boys
A South Lincoln Avenue woman reported Tuesday afternoon there were two 10-year-old boys sitting on her neighbor's porch yelling sexual vulgarities at her and calling her names. She said her young child was outside and could hear them. Officer Shar Daub found the boys at their friend's house, and the one boy said it was the other who was making the comments. The boy admitted saying these things because it was something to do. Daub took the boys with her, dropping one off at his home and speaking with his mother, and taking the other back to the police station, where she called his father. Daub advised the father she planned to file disorderly conduct charges against his son for his vulgar comments, and Children Services would be contacted as well. The mother arrived later and she was advised what was going on.
Reckless driver
A caller reported following a motorist driving recklessly south into Lisbon on state Route 45 at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. The caller said the driver almost struck some pedestrians and his children passengers were not wearing seat belts. Chief Higgins stopped the car near McKinley Elementary, where the driver was dropping off his children, who were found to be wearing their seat belts and in car seats.
Dog complaint
A caller reported Tuesday her neighbor on East Washington Street continues to allow her dog to go to the bathroom in her yard, despite a warning sign posted in the yard. Police spoke with the dog owners, who advised they would take care of the problem.
Breaking glass
A report was received of a woman screaming and breaking glass on West Lincoln Way at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday, and police arrived to find the back door window broken. The residents said they were playing around and accidentally broke the window when the woman said she threw a camp stove propane bottle.
