Crestview BOE to meet

COLUMBIANA- A special meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at Crestview Elementary School. The regular meeting follows at 7 p.m. in the music suite at the high school.

Beaver Local BOE to meet

LISBON-The Beaver Local Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 in the high school media center.

Electric Furnace Retirees

SALEM- Electric Furnace Retirees will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Fairfield Ruritans food drive

COLUMBIANA-Fairfield Ruritans will hold a food drive for the local food bank at the Main Street Tent during the Columbiana Street Fair, Sept. 9-11. Non-perishable items will be accepted. Tickets for the 50th annual chicken barbecue dinner will be available. The dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Grace Church in Columbiana. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Damascus rummage sale

DAMASCUS- The Damascus Area Historical Society will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 in the Pearce House Community Room. Proceeds will benefit the historical society.

Columbiana art exhibition

COLUMBIANA-"Discovering what we have in common through self expression" is the theme of the Edward Arkwright Family's event "The Missing Link" Art Exhibition that will be held on North Main Street in Columbiana during the Columbiana Street Fair this year. Expressions of photography, jewelry, paintings, t-shirt art, technology and music are just some of the talents that these five individuals may show on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11.

The show will be at 31 N. Main St. (just one block south of the Columbiana circle). The hours will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.Saturday.

As part of the weekend event, the artist family will create an abstract painting in tandem to be auctioned off at a later date at the Way Station. The piece can be viewed throughout the weekend, as well as the week following the Street Fair. The proceeds of this piece and a percentage of all sales will go toward The Way Station, a faith based, non-profit social service ministry.

Salineville yard sale today

SALINEVILLE-The Salineville Village Wide Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11.

North Benton breakfast

NORTH BENTON-An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at the North Benton Presbyterian Church. Cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for ages 6-12.

Damascus food drive

DAMASCUS-An Area Wide Non-Perishable Food Drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 11. The drive is sponsored in cooperation with Ruritan National and the Damascus Ruritan Club. The collection point will be at the Damascus Post Office. The food will then be donated to the local food pantry for distribution. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Checks should be made out to the Damascus Ruritan Club, designated for the food drive, and sent to P.O.Box 94, Damascus, Ohio 44619-0094.

Conservation Expo set

MECHANICSTOWN- The fourth annual Agriculture, Natural Resource, Conservation Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at 4071 Meter Road NE. This event will be held rain or shine. Admission and parking are free. For more information visit www.anrcexpo.com.

Beaver Local band fest

LISBON-Beaver Local Red Pride Band will be hosting a Festival of Bands Show at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Beaver Local football field. Several area bands will be participating. There will be T-shirt sales, a pie sale, concessions and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win two tickets to the Ohio State University vs Ohio University football game on Sept. 18. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the football games, at the bands show or by contacting any Beaver Local band member or booster member at 330-383-9227.

Salem 1944 breakfast

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1944 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 at Adele's Place.

Crop with a Friend

SALEM-The Salem First Friends Church's Crop with a Friend group will meet from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Sept. 13. Those attending are asked to clean out their scrapbooking drawers and containers, wrap their unwanted supplies in a paper bag or box bring them to the meeting. Numbers will then be drawn to pick the bags. There will a light meal. Metal rimmed accents will be made at the next meeting. AT&T-Ohio Bell operators

SALEM-Former AT&T-Ohio Bell Telephone Operators will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Rabies clinic planned

DAMASCUS-A Rabies Clinic is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Damascus Fire Station on state Route 534. Cost for the rabies vaccination is $6. Dogs must be on leashes and cat in cages. Dr. Jack Zines will serve as veterinarian. The clinic is sponsored by the Damascus Ruritan Club as a public service project. Proceeds will be used to support the club's youth programs.

Dinner to benefit Help Hotline

BOARDMAN-A pasta dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Local 66 Operators Engineering Hall, 291 McClurg Road in Boardman. The union counselors will donate their cooking talents and skills. Proceeds from the event will be used to support the programs of Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. (www.helphotline.org) and Potential Development Program Inc. (www.4pdp.org). Tickets are available by calling Help Hotline Crisis Center at 330-747-5111. Tickets will be sold until the day of the event and walk ins are welcome. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Tickets for a gift basket raffle/auction and 50/50 will also be sold.
