Trinity Evangelical Lutheran marks 200th

WASHINGTONVILLE- The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will celebrate its 200th anniversary at its 10:30 a.m. worship service Sept. 12, with Northeastern Ohio Synod Bishop Elizabeth Eaton leading. A light luncheon will be served following the service.

Children's Choir in concert

NEW WATERFORD - The Children of the World International Children's Choir will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, New Waterford. Speaking during the concert will be the Rev. Cyrus Mad-Bondo, Africa director of World Help, a global agency under which the Children's Choir operates. Mad-Bondo also is pastor of Struthers Baptist Tabernacle in Struthers. He and his wife, Julie, a former orphan, have been married 21 years and have two children. The choir, comprised of disadvantaged and orphaned children from Uganda, Nepal and the Philippines, ministers in music and dance as a way to raise awareness of the need for clean water around the world. Admission is free.

Sock hop set in East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE-Ozer Ministries of East Palestine will hold its fifth annual sock hop from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the East Palestine City Park Community Center. Guests will enjoy 50s music, food and atmosphere as they enter into another era. The menu includes black cows, homemade ice cream, peach cobbler, hot dogs and taco in a bag. There will be games and prizes for children from 5 to 6 pm. Silent auction and raffle baskets include getaway nights, sports memorabilia, tickets and gift certificates. Admission is free. Drive-thru chicken dinner set

NORTH LIMA-Calvary United Methodist Church of North Lima will hold its drive- thru chicken dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9, or until sold out. The dinner includes a baked chicken breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $6. The church is located at the junctions of routes 164 and 165. Dinners may be ordered by calling 330-549-2588 or 330-549-5106 and should be picked up by 5:15 p.m.

Support group meets in Canfield

CANFIELD- Support group meetings for adult children with aging parents will be held on Wednesdays starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Canfield Christian Church, 123 S. Broad St. These meeting are free of charge and open to the community.

Bible survey set in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA-Interested individuals are invited to participate in a two-semester survey of both the Old and New Testaments that will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the parish hall of Christ the King Church at 202 E. 5K race/walk planned

DAMASCUS-The Damascus Friends Church Sports and Fitness Ministry is sponsoring its DFC Canyon Run/5-K Race/Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Oct. 2. Cost for ages 12 and older is $15 with early bird registration which includes a shirt and $20 (after Sept. 25), with no shirt.

A Two-Mile Fun Run/Walk for those under 12 is $10 with early bird registration and includes a shirt and $15 (after Sept. 25), with no shirt.

Registration forms are available by calling 330-537-2581 or www.dfcnow.org to print out form. Check in is 8 to 8:45 a.m. at the church parking lot. Proceed will benefit youth sports scholarships and DFC food pantry. For information send an e-mail to sports@damascusfriends.org.
