CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities have resumed a search for a possibly downed small plane reported around Whitewater, about 22 miles northwest of Cincinnati.

The Hamilton County Sheriff Office says the search resumed about 8 a.m. Sunday.

Sheriff Jim Neil says deputies were sent to the Kilby Road area shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday after someone reported possibly seeing a two-seater aircraft dive toward the ground and then a plume of smoke.

Deputies and Whitewater fire and emergency crews searched by foot and by vehicles but didn't locate any wreckage. The University of Cincinnati Hospital Air Care helicopter also participated in the search before it was called off for the night. The sheriff says local airports gave no indication of receiving any distress signals or reports of missing flights.
