SALEM - Police found what appeared to be two bullet holes in a Columbia Street home early Friday morning after the homeowner reported he saw and heard what he believed to be a gunshot.

John Blankenship, 637 Columbia St., reported at 2:17 a.m. Friday that he arrived home, heard what he believed to be a single gunshot and saw what he believed to be a muzzle flash near the rear porch of his home. He did not exit his vehicle and reported he did not see anyone outside.

Police officers arrived on the scene and detected what they believed to be gunpowder in the air.

Two additional people at the residence, a man and a woman who were guests in Blankenship's home, told police they had heard a total of three gunshots.

Police located what appeared to be a bullet hole to the left of the rear door and what appeared to be a second bullet hole on the east side of the home, near the living room. The suspected bullets fired at the house appeared to be of different caliber. Police received the name of a possible suspect and took photographs.
