Leetonia 2-0 after beating Columbiana

Hubbard 48, Salem 46

SALEM Salem got 16 points and five 3-pointers from Katherine Stiff, but their home opener was spoiled by the Hubbard Lady Eagles who knocked off the Lady Quakers 48-46. Hubbard rallied from down six points going into the fourth quarter to get the win.

Stiff's 16 points were a game-high. Also for the Lady Quakers, Chelsea Fuson had 11 and Cassie Davidson added eight points.

Hubbard was led by Allie DeLuco with 15 points. Krista Julian added 13 and Courtney Sargent scored 11.

Salem (1-2) will be back in action on Monday as they host Cardinal Mooney.

Leetonia 42, Columbiana 37

COLUMBIANA Leetonia built up a 12 point lead after three quarters but had to withstand a Columbiana rally down the stretch to prevail with a 42-37 victory over their backyard rivals. Clarissa Perkins led the way for the Lady Bears with 20 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Ketterman added 12 points and four assists. Kinzie Smith added six points and Nicole Mann pulled in six rebounds.

Columbiana was led by Haley Goist with 15 points, five assists and five steals. Khylea Fullum had 11 points and nine rebounds. Katie Orr grabbed eight rebounds.

Columbiana won the jayvee game 36-28. Haley Scoville had 12 points for Leetonia.

Leetonia (2-0) will play next on Monday at Lisbon. Columbiana (1-1) will also play at Lisbon in their next game, on Thursday.

Newton Falls 51, Crestview 48

NEWTON FALLS Crestview held a six-point lead at halftime, but ended up falling to Newton Falls 51-48. In the loss, Ashley Harrison scored a game-high 22 points for the Lady Rebels, including shooting 15-for-21 from the foul line. She also led the team with five steals. Also for Crestview, Chelsea Caudill added 11 points, Geri Sickle picked up eight rebounds and Marissa Leon grabbed seven.

Newton Falls was led by Rachel Ellis with 15 points. Bridgette Clark added 11.

Crestview (1-2) will be at Lordstown on Monday.

South Range 57, Western Reserve 54

CANFIELD South Range won a nail-bitter over Western Reserve 57-54. The Lady Raiders got a double-double from Gab Naples with 16 points and 10 rebounds to help lead them to the win. Sam Smith added 12 points, six steals and three assists. Kenzi Pfeifer scored 11 points.

For Western Reserve, Sammi Burton led with 18 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Hannah Shrader scored eight points and had eight rebounds. Colleen Kennehan had eight points and delivered four assists.

South Range won the jayvee game 38-14. Starla Sharp led with 10 points. Alexis Lude had seven for Western Reserve.

South Range (3-0) will play next on Monday as they host Poland. Western Reserve (1-1) will host McDonald on Thursday.

Warren JFK 51, United 49

WARREN In the battle of the Eagles, it was Warren JFK who flew higher, thanks to a buzzer beating, 3-point bank shot that carried them past United 51-49. United had a seven point lead at halftime, but JFK came back to overtake them in the final seconds of the game.

United was led on the night by Ruth Prosko with 17 points and 13 rebounds seven of those coming on the offensive end. Lange Carter had nine points and seven rebounds. Crystal Richards added eight points and three steals. Sierra Parks had seven points and three steals.

Paige Klark scored a game-high 24 points for JFK. Raesha Gaston added seven points and seven rebounds.

United won the jayvee game 49-39. Cassidy Yoder led United with 13. Courtney Hydrick added nine and Sam Spitler chipped in with eight.

United (2-1) will play next on Thursday against Springfield.
