Salem Area Retired Workers

SALEM-Members of Salem Area Retired Workers will celebrate the group's 45th anniversary today when they meet at noon at the CIO Hall. Cake and ice cream will be served.

Salem VFW breakfast

SALEM-The public is invited to breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892, 496 Arch St. Haystacks, or a traditional breakfast of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee, are available. Cost is $4 per meal.

Salem Library trustees

SALEM- The Salem Public library board of trustees will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the library.

Deming retirees breakfast

SALEM-Deming retirees and former employees will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. April 18 at Adele's Place.

Goshen 1941 breakfast

SALEM-The Goshen High School Class of 1941 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. April 19 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

DAHS?1960 lunch set

LISBON-The David Anderson High School Class of 1960 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. April 19 at Taste of Country.

Easter egg hunt at Walmart

SALEM-Area children are invited to an Easter egg hunt to benefit the Children's Miracle Network from 4 to 7 p.m. April 22 at the Salem Walmart. There is an entry fee of $3 per child for age groups 0-5 and 6-12.

In addition to eggs filled with surprises, there will be games, balloons, a coloring contest, and face painting. Prizes will be awarded. A surprise visitor will be available for pictures.There will be a raffle for several baskets filled with Easter favorites. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Salem 1971 breakfast

SALEM-The Salem High School Class of 1971 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. April 23 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Concealed carry class

SALEM-The Salem Hunting Club is hosting a Basic Ohio CHL (concealed carry) class from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 7. This course meets the state requirements and covers topics such as firearm safety, shooting skills/fundamentals and a strong emphasis on the laws that pertain to concealed carry. The day's schedule consists of 10 hours classroom and two hours range time. Pre-registration is required by calling 330-332-9847 (www.salemhuntingclub.com).

Utility payment plan

LISBON-The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County located at 7860 Lincole Place (rear) will continue to take applications for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus Program. PIPP Plus is an extended payment arrangement that requires regulated gas and electric companies to accept payments based on a percentage of the household income. Any customer who may have received a letter from the Ohio Department of Development requesting that they reverify their income for the program may call 330-424-1386. The automated scheduling system can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven day a week.

Applicants, at the time of the appointment, must provide proof of the gross household income for the previous 90 days, Social Security numbers and dates of birth for all members of the household. They must provide a picture I.D as well as a rent receipt or lease agreement if applicable. Customers must provide their gas bill as well as their electric bill.

In order to qualify for the PIPP Plus program the total household income must be at or below 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines. PIPP Plus customers who are either income ineligible or choose to leave PIPP Plus but still owe a balance on utility bill and are in good standing with their utilities may enroll in Graduate PIPP Plus.

Autism golf outing

PARIS, Ohio- "Take a Swing for Autism," the first golf outing benefiting Team Clayton Fundraising for Walk Now for Autism Speaks Pittsburgh Walk, begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start May 21 at Pleasant View Golf Course, 14605 Louisville Road, Paris. The registration deadline is May 1, featuring 18 holes of golf with cart-foursome. Prize money will be based on the number of teams. There will be hot dogs at the turn, a steak dinner to follow with Butch Stoffer Catering, hole prizes, raffles, 50/50, skins and other surprises. Cost is $55 per golfer and $220 per foursome.

Benefit spaghetti dinner

SALEM-The Team Clayton second annual spaghetti dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. May 7 at Elks Lodge. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under.

All proceeds go toward Team Clayton for the Walk Now for Autism Speaks Pittsburgh Walk. For advance tickets call 330-83I-2071.

Career Kickoff Workshop

YOUNGSTOWN-Eastern Gateway Community College will sponsor a Career Kickoff Workshop on April 27 at the Newport Branch of the Youngstown-Mahoning County Library system.

The free decision-making workshop, set for 1:30-4:30 p.m., is for displaced workers, recent high school graduates and those in need of career and education goal-setting.

Individual education and career plans will be developed for participants to help lead them to employment and economic self-sufficiency. Individuals who are undecided about their career goals and not sure what kind of education and training will be best for them will take part in activities to help them with goal-setting. The session will increase the participant's awareness of individual strengths, interests, and abilities in relation to selected career goals and the identification of the potential challenges and barriers to accomplishing these goals.

The hands-on sessions will identify interests and skills; determine work values and needs; explore careers in fields with expected growth; and develop a workable career plan. Workshop completers leave with the tools necessary to begin an education and employment plan and will identify the resources necessary for the next step. Outcomes may include enrollment in a post-secondary education program, participation in on-the-job training, or transition directly into employment.

Open to all residents, the workshop requires advanced registration, which may be made by calling the college's Valley Center at 330-884-0866. The Newport branch is located at 3730 Market St., Youngstown.
