Mr. and Mrs. James A. Rhodes Jr. celebrate 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. James A Rhodes Jr. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 16. They are members of St. Paul Catholic Church where a Mass was held on June 18 in their honor.

The former Jean Kathleen Stratford of East Palestine and Mr. Rhodes of Salem were married on June 16, 1951, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine. The Rev. Joseph Heid officiated.

Their attendants were the bride's sisters, Blanche (Stratford) Lanterman of Leetonia and Phyllis (Stratford) McCarthy of Knoxville, Tenn. Groomsmen were the late Charles Dimko of Salem and Paul Althouse of Columbus. Ushers were Roland Hiscox and the late George Stratford.

At the time of their marriage, Mr. Rhodes was in the Air Force for four years, stationed in Great Falls, Mont. She worked for the Union Commercial Bank in East Palestine.

The couple's children are Diane (Robert) Hughes of Little Rock, Ark., James (Karen) Rhodes III and John (Gayle) Rhodes of Salem, Norma Jean (John) Koch of Cleveland, Ellen (Glenn) Turkelson of Lebanon, Tom Rhodes of Salineville and Earl Rhodes of North Canton. They have 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a fourth expected in October.

Mr. Rhodes was a dairy farmer for 40 years and also worked at Gause Equipment for 12 years.

Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker, helped on the farm and was active in many school, church and community organizations.
