Ring in the New Year right in Salem

December 29, 2011
Salem News

Throughout the calendar year, the Salem News has tried to be a rallying cry for residents to enjoy activities provided right here in town.

Regardless of the season, there have been many activities held in the city's downtown. A common theme is that they are interactive, for all ages and usually for the most part free or very inexpensive. Think of the recent Christmas parade and related children-oriented activities held at the City Center which attracted hundreds. Last summer thousands of citizens and nearby residents thoroughly loved the cruise and all of the cool vehicles it brought in. There are Easter and other season-themed events held in the downtown.

A big event will be held this Saturday. New Year's Eve Salem will observed at different locations from 4:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. The schedule has certainly been documented on our pages and we are glad to provide the information.

New Year's Eve Salem affords residents an opportunity to enjoy the beckoning 2012 right here at home. It is inexpensive with some activities free. It is for all ages. You don't have to worry about being on the road during one of the scariest (because of drinking and driving) nights for travelers. You would be supporting local agencies and merchants. You would be doing this most likely with your neighbors and people you know right by your side. Who likes to celebrate a holiday with strangers anyhow?

The Salem News would like to thank and give credit to Dave Schwartz and those involved in staging New Year's Eve Salem. They are not profit or agenda-driven. They do it because of a love for their community. Appreciate that. We do.

Tickets for New Year's Eve Salem are $5 for adults in advance and $8 at venues. That is pretty inexpensive. Children 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Tickets are being sold at all Salem area banks, Salem Giant Eagle, Salem Historical Society, Salem Community Center and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

There will be children's activities, entertainment and an array of music. Food will be available at an additional low cost. For information call 330-817-6693, email:; or visit:

Ringing in the New Year right here in Salem could be an exciting, fun, safe and inexpensive option for you. We encourage those looking for something to do, including those with children, to consider New Year's Eve Salem.
