Alliance Hospital uniform sale continues

ALLIANCE-The Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary will continue its Roberts Uniform sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in conference room 1-A. Special orders are offered. Proceeds from this fund raiser will be used for programs, projects and equipment at the hospital.

New Year's Eve Salem 2011 wrap-up

SALEM-The New Year's Eve Salem 2011 wrap-up meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the David Schwartz home on East 11th Street.

Free soup, sandwich dinner in West Point

WEST POINT-A free soup and sandwich dinner for the entire community and surrounding areas will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the West Point Church of the Nazarene.

Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry open Thursday

LISBON-The Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry at 6428 Lisbon Road will be open from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

DAHS 1953 luncheon set Thursday

LISBON-The David Anderson High School Class of 1953 will hold its monthly luncheon meeting at noon Thursday at the Taste of Country.

Power meetings set in Hanoverton

HANOVERTON-The Village of Hanoverton will hold two public meetings concerning the Village of Hanoverton Electric Power Aggregation Plan of Operation. Meetings will be held at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at village hall.

Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting

NORTH LIMA-The Beaver Township Police Crime Watch meeting begins at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the activity center at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road.

Memorial Building indoor yard sale

SALEM-The Salem Memorial Building Association will host its indoor winter yard sale and flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 in the gym. Eight-foot tables with chairs are available for rent for $10. Set-up times are noon to 5 p.m. the day before and 6 to 8 a.m. Feb. 18.

The annual Spring Arts and Crafts Bazaar is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 9 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10. Many seasonal items and gifts will be featured as well as locally made arts and crafts and a Chinese auction. Cost is $25 for an 8-foot table with chairs.

Vendors wishing to participate in either event may call 330-332-5512 or stop in at 785 E. State St.

AARP tax preparation help offered

SALEM-AARP tax counselors will prepare tax forms free of charge at the Columbiana County Office on Aging in the Memorial Building. Taxpayers with income up to $60,000, disabled and senior citizens are eligible for this free service. Participants must have no more than five stocks and must bring last year's tax forms and property tax from the previous year. Appointments will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb.2 Appointments may be made by calling the Office on Aging at 330-332-1163.

Gifted students invited to inauguration

LISBON-The Columbiana County Educational Service Center is announcing an informational meeting for high school students, who are identified as gifted, to attend the 45th presidential inauguration. The students and their parents are invited to attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the CCESC, 38720 Saltwell Road, Lisbon.

This opportunity is for students identified as gifted who will be in ninth through 12th grade in the 2012-13 school year. The group will be traveling with Worldstrides, the travel company utilized by Columbiana County ESC for the last four presidential inaugurations. Students will also participate in a student inaugural ball, tour the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Pentagon 911 Memorial, etc.

Reservations may be made by calling Yvonne Lipinsky, gifted coordinator, at 330-424-9581 Ext. 179 before Jan. 27.

Victorian Players director named

YOUNGSTOWN- J.E.Ballantyne Jr., who has been serving as Interim Managing Director of the Victorian Players since the death of long-time director Marilyn Higgins, was named the permanent managing director by the theater's Board of Directors Sunday evening. Ballantyne worked very closely with Higgins during the past several years on many Victorian productions. He has directed numerous productions at the Victorian as well as starting the annual Halloween productions of Edgar Allan Poe's works. His company, J&B Theatrical Promotions, will continue to handle marketing for the theater as it has done for several years.
