Robert G. Hartman

SALEM - Robert G. Hartman, 88, of Salem, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Salem Community Hospital.

He was born April 9, 1923 in Etna, Pa., a son of the late William H. and Lillian M. (Byerley) Hartman.

He was a graduate of Shaler High School class of 1940 where he was class president and he was a graduate of Grove City College class of 1944 where he was class president. After his college graduation he joined the Navy and went to Annapolis. After his discharge from the Navy he went to work with Mellon Institute, Summitville Tile, Columbia Gas and then North American Manufacturing of Cleveland, where he was a combustion sales engineer for 30 years until his retirement in April of 1988.

He lived in the Lisbon and Salem area for 64 years. He was a member of the Salem Golf Club, the Masonic Lodges in Salem and Lisbon, and the Elks Lodge in Salem. He enjoyed being with his family most of all and having them up to his cottage at Berlin Lake, for boating, water skiing, and picnicking. He also enjoyed his winter home in Naples, Fla.

He was first married to the late Anna M. Killgallon in 1944 and had four daughters, Ann Greenisen of Salem; Mrs. Dan (Carol) Burton of Oakmont, Pa.; Joan Hartman of Denver, Col.; and Mrs. Todd (Budgie) Latshaw of Pensacola, Fla. He was later married to the late Dorothy A. (First) Pence, who had two daughters, Peggy Mays of Freedom, Pa., and Mrs. Mark (Jackie) Hannay of Poland, Ohio. The children all survive. In addition he has 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides his first and second wives he was preceded in death by three brothers James R. Hartman, William H. Hartman Jr., and Ralph Hartman.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home with Pastor John Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Royal Cemetery in Glenshaw, Pa.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
