Potters continue to be state ranked

COLUMBUS - The Potters remained ranked for another week.

The East Liverpool boys' basketball team picked up two wins over local rivals last week to improve to 16-2 on the season.

East Liverpool earned a 69-53 victory Tuesday night against Beaver Local at the Beaver Dome, and East Liverpool defeated Wellsville 88-71, Saturday night at Potter Fieldhouse on Senior Night.

With the two victories, the Potters were able to maintain their No. 8 rank in Ohio Division II in the latest Associated Press Poll released Monday. Akron East (16-1) is currently ranked seventh.

The top four teams in the division are all undefeated.

Dayton Dunbar and Alliance are both 19-0, Definace is 17-0 and Franklin is 18-0.

Northland (18-1) is ranked No. 1 in Division I.

Bloom-Carroll (18-0) is ranked No. 1 in Division III.

Hiland (17-0) is ranked No. I in Division IV.

Bishop Rosecrans (14-3) is ranked No. 7 in Division IV, and Malvern (15-3) is ranked ninth.

The Potters are scheduled to play two games this week.

East Liverpool plays tonight at home against Harrison Central (14-4) in an OVAC Class AAAA Semifinal. The Potters are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, while the Huskies are the No. 3 seed,

With a win, the Potters will play in the tournament championship game at 5:45 p.m. Saturday down at Ohio University Eastern.

With a loss, the Potters will play in the consolation final Friday night.

St. Clairsville, the No. 1 seed, plays Steubenville tonight in the other semifinal game. Big Red (12-5) is seeded fourth.

East Liverpool defeated Steubenville, 76-71, earlier this season in a game played at the Crimson Center.

All four teams in the Class AAAA Tournament will also be competing in the sectional tournament down at OUE.

The Red Devils (16-2) and Potters are also the top two seeds in that tournament. Harrison Central is seeded fourth, and Big Red is the No. 5 seed.

Indian Creek (14-4) is the third seed.
