HANOVERTON- The United Local school board Wednesday night accepted the resignation of a longtime maintenance employee.

Building and Grounds Supervisor Dave Starcher resigned effective immediately to take the same position at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.

A graduate of the school, Starcher had been with the district for 33 years, beginning his career in the student work program. He was the supervisor for the past 14 years.

"I appreciate the opportunity I had to work my way up here and the faith in me as the supervisor the past 14 years," he told the board.

Reluctant to accept the resignation, the board acknowledged Starcher's tremendous work record of over 30 years and thanked him for his dedication to the school.

"You really have been a wonderful asset to us and we hate to see you go," said board President John Zehentbauer.

The board retained Starcher as supervisor for up to three hours per day as needed at $25 per hour and approved day shift maintenance worker Tom Clemens as temporary supervisor until the position is permanently filled.

The board also tabled a motion to adjust the position's job description until an efficiency study can be completed.

In other business, the board approved revisions to the 2012-2013 school calendar approved Feb. 9 to include a return from spring break on April 3 and an early dismissal on April 17.

The board also approved a 60-month copier lease with Ikon Office Solutions at $1,993 per month.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 8 in the high school Library.
